About me

Counselling in Bristol BS1 and Keynsham BS31

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor, working in private practice in central Bristol and Keynsham. i offer face to face, video and telephone counselling sessions. My therapeutic focus is on helping individual adults being challenged by bereavement, loss or grief, depression and anxiety, feeling sad or low, experiencing low self-esteem, relationship issues or challenging family dynamics. The aim of our sessions is to help you have a better understanding of yourself, which in turn will help you deal with the feelings that are encroaching on your current life.

Therapy is a joint enterprise. I see the role of the counsellor as that of a confidential and compassionate collaborator, supporting you towards solutions that are not imposed by me, but come from within you.

Integrative-Relational Counselling

As an integrative counsellor I use a number of approaches depending on what seems appropriate for you and your particular issues.

As a relational counsellor (not couples counsellor) I draw on the dynamics which happen within the therapeutic relationship between you as a client, and me as a therapist, as a means to better understanding the relationships in your life. By understanding more about yourself and increasing your self-awareness within a supportive and confidential therapeutic relationship, you may gain fresh insights into your life and patterns of behaviour. This will offer you the opportunity to see your concerns in a different light, and perhaps reveal to you new ways of coping.

Experience
My experience includes working with adults with a broad diversity of ages and backgrounds in the NHS sector and in private practice. I have worked with a range of issues, from depression, low self-esteem and self-confidence, career-related difficulties or stress, relationship difficulties to separation and divorce.

I have worked with many senior clients facing retirement, isolation and loneliness.

Area of interest:
I have a special interest in bereavement, grief and loss counselling and can help with what can be a very difficult time in your life.

I am a certified and experienced online and telephone counsellor and can deliver remote counselling sessions competently.

Sessions
I offer one-to-one short and long term counselling sessions to adults. I offer daytime and evening appointments face to face, via Zoom video and telephone.

I see clients at the Bristol Talking Therapy Rooms in Bristol BS1 on Mondays and Tuesdays from 5pm to 9pm.

I also see clients in Keynsham BS31 from Monday to Friday:

Mondays: 8am - 2pm

Tuesdays:  8am - 2pm

Wednesdays: 8am - 8.30pm

Thursdays: 8am - 8.30pm

Fridays:  9am - 5pm

What will happen at my first appointment?
At your first appointment with me l will ask you a few questions, discuss some of the events that have brought you to therapy and look at how my services might be able to help. You will have an opportunity to ask any questions you have about counselling. In many ways, your first appointment will be straight-forward: I collect some information from you and help you determine your best options for going forward.

At the end of this initial consultation, you may be able to decide whether you would like to continue with further appointments.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
