About me
Therapeutic Art Counselling provides an alternative to traditional talking therapy wherein a person can explore and express oneself in a creative way, without judgement, nor prior artistic experience.
A session offers a creative therapeutic environment wherein to form a supportive connection, develop emotional resilience and gain an overall sense of wellbeing. The art-based therapeutic space also offers the potential to develop a new capacity for self-reflection, expression and overall personal growth.
Sessions are predominantly client-led. Exercises may be introduced to facilitate a process to nurture a person's development of self discovery and reflection.
A variety of media may be introduced to sessions, when and where appropriate. There is no point in working with chalk pastels in the first session if a person hates getting their hands dirty.
Sessions are structured in a way that works for each person. Some people like to do a creative exercise during the facilitated session and some choose to use sessions to share their reflections of the process. In some instances, sessions may be a combination of both. There isn't a formula!
What a person brings to a session derives from their individualised unique life experience. It's a creative journey of self-discovery and development.
Anyone is welcome to contact me for a no obligation video call to discuss whether an integrative creative approach feels right for them.
I offer a taster programme of three sessions that may facilitate a more informed decision as to whether this therapeutic approach is the way forward.
Training, qualifications & experience
Qualified Transpersonal Arts Counsellor (City and Guilds Level 7 Award - MCGI) in 2015.
Registered member with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) - MBACP 380026
I established a private practice, Creative Counselling, in 2016, working mainly with adults of varying abilities using the creative arts as a means to facilitate individuals in their person-centred healing and self-development as a form of artistic psychotherapy.
Apart from private practice and facilitating groups in care organisations, I established a number of community projects to continue group work and facilitate the benefits of creative social prescription.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
