About me

After being a Samaritans volunteer for many years, I reached the point where I wanted to support people in a different way.  As a qualified integrative Counsellor, I enjoy having the opportunity to build a therapeutic relationship, where we have the time to take a look at what is going on for you and work together on what has brought you to Counselling.

Being “integrative” simply means that I am trained and qualified in different types of Counselling. This knowledge gives me the flexibility to tailor my support to meet your individual needs.

What to expect from our sessions

Counselling is a process and it is not about me giving advice, passing judgement or claiming that I know what is best for you, but it is about me offering you a safe, confidential and supportive environment where you can explore and discover for yourself. I am passionate and have belief in what I do and my aim is that during our sessions, you will start to make sense of your thoughts and feelings, to develop strategies where they are needed, enabling you to move forward and find yourself in a different, more positive place to where you are right now.

I work with adults only over the age of 21 and have experience working with a range of issues from anxiety and depression to suicidal thoughts, bereavement to relationship issues. A more comprehensive list of issues that I work with is detailed below.

What happens once you have contacted me

I will ask you what issues you are looking for support with and what you are hoping to acheive from the sessions.  You will also have the opportunity to ask me any questions that you may have about the Counselling process.  For therapy to work, it is really important that we both feel comfortable with each other to enable us to work together.

If we are both happy to proceed, we can then look to schedule a first session. I offer weekday sessions at various times from my therapy room in Telford. My room is conveniently located on Stafford Park and has ample free parking. I also offer remote sessions via MS Teams or telephone if preferred.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
