About me
** Some evening and weekend availability **
Life can be unpredictable and it can leave us feeling overwhelmed, especially when we are facing difficult circumstances alone.
Whether you are coming to terms with the shock of an unexpected life event, feel weighed down by a series of knock-backs over a lifetime, or you just feel anxious all the time, I aim to provide a safe, peaceful and non-judgemental space where I aim to help you make more sense of your most difficult thoughts and feelings, so you can identify what changes you might want to make, to improve your overall sense of wellbeing.
As a psychodynamic counsellor, I will be be curious about your past, even your earliest childhood experiences and relationships, as a way of understanding the way you think and feel about yourself and other people the present.
Having worked in HR for over 20 years before retraining as a counsellor, I am especially interested in working with work-related stress such as work-life balance, burnout, family issues, difficult relationships at work and job loss through redundancy. Other key interests include relationship/marriage difficulties or breakdown and bereavement/loss of all kinds.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Relations & Counselling from Robert Gordon University and Human Development Scotland.
I have over 25 years of professional experience supporting individuals through difficult life events such as long-term illness, bereavement, redundancy and work pressure. My counselling experience includes working within third sector voluntary organisations, supporting individuals facing issues such as loss, grief, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, bullying and relationship problems/breakdown.
Alongside my own small private counselling practice, I am a Community Worker for a 3rd sector charity that offers compassionate support after baby loss. I am also part of the counselling team at Strathcarron Hospice, supporting individuals to work through complex and unresolved grief.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
I like to work flexibly, giving clients the choice of working weekly or fortnightly, either online or in person and this can change over time, as you need.
Although I do offer outdoor therapy (walk and talk), for safeguarding reasons, I only offer this after 3-4 sessions indoors.
