About me

Counselling

I believe that by opening up and talking to someone outside of your situation can make you feel a sense of relief and enable you to be truly honest with yourself about your feelings and wishes.

I follow confidentiality rules which help to build trust in our therapeutic relationship. I would like you to feel that you’re being listened to and understood which in turn, will help to create a safe environment for you to speak freely in. Counselling is a chance for you to explore and learn more about yourself whilst having me alongside you for the journey.

How I Work

I work in a person centred way which means that it is up to you as the client to bring and discuss whatever topics you would like and we can work through these together. You know yourself the best and you will have your own goals and aims that you want to work on which I will happily support you with. I am also happy to adapt the counselling sessions to meet your needs by finding out how counselling will work best for you and implementing it together.

There is no right or wrong reason for seeking support from counselling and no two people experience life events in the same way. I treat my clients with individuality and keep in mind that everyone’s experiences are unique to them.

My Experience

I am a registered member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a fully qualified counsellor.

In the past I worked on a mental health ward in London for two years where I worked closely with people suffering from a range of different types of mental illness. This gave me a great experience of dealing with people who were in crisis and at their rock bottom.

From the wards I went and worked for the NHS in a Community Mental Health Recovery Team (CMHRS) for four years. Here I helped to support families who were impacted by a loved one’s mental health by giving them sessions and space to offload about how they were coping with everything that was impacting on them as a carer. I also offered counselling to individuals who were suffering with their own mental health problems as well. This ranged from depression and anxiety to bipolar and personality disorders. I had one client tell me I had saved his life, this I will never forget. I learnt a lot working in this team and I take what I learned forward with me.

I now work to support teenagers who are about to leave the foster care system where I help them to adjust into living independently and building the best life they can for themselves. With this type of work there is a lot around self-esteem and confidence building. It gives them the support that many of them didn’t have growing up which hopefully can impact in a positive way on their future.

I love working with people from different backgrounds to help support them and to help them realise they have the answers to their problems; it’s just about unlocking these.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
