About me

As a Biographical Counsellor I support adults through a variety of issues to help them make or adapt to changes in their life within the context of their biography. Getting in touch and connecting to the unique experiences within our own life story provides an opportunity to look at life from different perspectives.

At some point we may all feel challenged by difficulties we encounter in our experiences and relationships that impact our participation in daily life. Life crises, anxiety, depression, trauma, illness and loss all effect how we are relating to the world around us, to the people in our lives, and to our self.

Biographical Counselling makes use of a variety of practical activities to help people develop and strengthen their capacity to better understand themselves and the challenges they face. Supporting someone to connect to their experience through their biography, I aim to help them understand what may be hindering them, finding greater clarity and meaning in a situation. It is a way of helping develop resilience and make more informed choices in their lives for themselves and in relation to others.

My approach as a therapist is not to fix a situation but to accompany you on your path towards healing. I believe that an important aspect of this is a good working relationship between client and counsellor with the aim to help improve your sense of well-being, to help you reconcile and integrate the difficulties you are experiencing and enrich and renew your connection with life and relationship to others.

Biographical Counselling is a transpersonal approach to therapy, integrating all aspects of a person’s life to facilitate healing.

I was first introduced to Biography Work and Biographical Counselling as part of an Anthroposophical adult education programme in my home country Australia, out of which my commitment and passion for the work was born.

Issues I work with that may require or enforce change include working with difficulties in relationships, complex family dynamics, dis-ease, transitions and recurring themes in life particularly relating to bereavement, grief and loss. I believe it is possible for us all to live better, more fulfilled lives if we have the right support and ‘tools’ to enable us to do so.

I understand that a good working relationship with my clients is key to an effective and creative therapeutic process and that respect for their autonomy, the sense of equality within our therapeutic relationship is central to the healing process.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
