About me

Asking for help to make changes in your life is never easy but you have started the process by beginning your search for counselling.

All of us experience difficulties as we go through life and it can be really beneficial to work through our struggles with a trained counsellor.

It is important that you choose the right counsellor for you because it is the therapeutic relationship and the connection between you and your counsellor which will bring about effective and meaningful therapy.

To help you choose, I offer a free telephone consultation so that you can find out more about how I work as a counsellor and I can assess whether my skills match your counselling needs before we agree to work together.

In the meantime, here is some information about me and the service I offer.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), offering a safe, supportive and confidential counselling service, in person, by video and by telephone.

I will listen to you with empathy and without judgment and will respond with honesty while you explore any thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are troubling you.  This process can help you to understand those thoughts, feelings and behaviours better and find your own solutions and ways of coping.  It can help you to make changes and improve your emotional wellbeing.  What you talk about will be confidential which is vital to the growth of the counselling relationship and so that you can feel safe to explore your deepest feelings.  I will explain any legal and ethical limits to that confidentiality before your counselling begins.

I have a humanistic integrative approach to counselling so I bring together and use different counselling techniques (e.g. those used in CBT) in a person-centred way and always in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.

I am committed to my own professional development and have regular clinical supervision, as required by the BACP ethical framework for good practice.

I work with a diverse range of mental health issues including but not limited to addiction, anxiety and panic, depression and low mood, stress, anger,  lack of confidence and low self esteem,  bereavement and grief, loss and bullying. I have a special interest in helping women who are struggling with the symptoms of menopause.

Training, qualifications & experience

I run my own private practice. From April 2018 - December 2021 I worked with a Shropshire Community Interest Company providing a counselling service to their clients.  Prior to that I trained as a Listener and volunteered for Samaritans for approximately 2 years.

My Qualifications are:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling
  • Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
  • Level 4 Foundation Diploma in CBT
  • Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • Level 3 Certificate in Addiction Studies
  • Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling
  • Exploitation and Vulnerability Training with West Mercia Police
  • Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
  • DBS Enhanced Certificate

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
