About us

Liber8 is a grassroots charity that provides a wide range of affordable counselling services to adults, families, and young people in Lanarkshire. Since 2007, we have supported people affected by mental health problems, alcohol misuse, or substance use. By embedding recovery in the local community, our goal is to ensure that professional therapy is accessible to anyone who needs it.

As well as one-to-one counselling, Liber8 provides a diverse range of community-based projects, including focused services on mental health and wellbeing, criminal justice, addiction, and youth services. We have unrivalled knowledge of our local communities, statutory and voluntary sector provision, children and family services, adult addiction services, and mental health services.

Our services include:

· One-to-one counselling for a small donation per session.
· Access to one-to-one counselling within 1-2 days for £30 per session.
· Parental counselling if you or your child is experiencing mental health problems.
· Specialist, trauma-focused counselling for managing the effects of psychological and emotional trauma.
· One-to-one counselling for pupils in high schools across Lanarkshire.
· Youth-focused support services for young people with mental health problems.
· Youth-focused community projects for young people who are, directly or indirectly, affected by alcohol misuse or substance use.

Training, qualifications & experience

Liber8 is an organisational member of COSCA, Scotland’s professional body for counselling and psychotherapy, and has held COSCA’s Certificate of Recognition for the last fourteen years. This is the nationally recognised scheme for counselling in Scotland and forms part of COSCA’s quality assurance framework, identifying and endorsing good quality service provision and safe practice within counselling, psychotherapy, and counselling organisations.

To achieve this Recognition Scheme, we regularly monitor our systems and quality assurance procedures, and ensure that we and all our counsellors meet or exceed defined professional standards. This includes a commitment to working within the terms of the COSCA Statement of Ethics and Code of Practice. COSCA also oversee a Complaints Procedure which Liber8 clients can use should any difficulties arise whilst having counselling with us.

Liber8 is also an organisational member of BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and BABCP (British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies).

Additional information

Donation Based Counselling Service:

Liber8’s counselling service aims to provide access to professional therapy for everyone aged 16+. However, this is a service that relies entirely on volunteer therapists and practice placement students in their final months, giving their time freely.

However as Liber8 is a not for profit organisation and recieves no external funding for this service we ask all clients to contribute voluntarily towards the cost of their counselling if they are in a position to do so. This is completely your decision and WILL NOT affect access to your counselling service as we appreciate that for some clients, a contribution is not possible. We have no fixed charge; it can be as little as £5 per session or as much as you can afford; this will help Liber8 maintain a counselling service. This will be discussed with you at referral stage and initial appointment. Fees can be waived for those unable to pay and this does not determine their place on the list or priority.

Fast Tracked Service:

Liber8 also offer a fast track service for those who want to access the service quickly and can afford to pay for this. All clients seen under our Fast Track Service are additional to our other services, and all proceeds go towards supporting the work of the charity and helping to increase capacity, improve our service and eventually reduce waiting times. Our current charge for this option is very reasonable in comparison to other organisations at £30 per session; this is lower than the average rate for private counselling sessions.

LEAP:

Liber8’s Employee Assistance Programme - LEAP offers an assessment and matched, support and counselling both for employees and their immediate family. Liber8 match the employee to a counsellor who has knowledge and experience of the presenting issues.

There are no large costs attached to LEAP; the service is based only on the support and counselling sessions booked by the employer. LEAP is a preferred and reasonable option for many small to medium sized employers instead of being tied into a large annual service contract which is often not used by employees.

Insurance

Check with your employer if you require counselling, often they are happy to contribute to the cost of counselling. Furthermore counselling may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Please check your coverage carefully.
