About me
Being human can be complicated, there are times we all struggle to make sense of how we’re living. Sometimes nothing seems to bring us any sense of joy, meaning or simply contentment anymore.
Talking to a counsellor might seem intimidating or downright terrifying but it’s honestly true that talking can make a huge difference and help make those negative or even desperate times easier to manage.
I will provide a safe confidential space at my practice where you can relax and gradually share your problems. My aim is that you will regain some clarity and a more positive outlook as well as greater personal insight. My hope is for you to feel more optimistic again and more self-aware. By listening with empathy and no judgement we will work together to help you identify elements that are holding you back. I may challenge you but will always do so with understanding, gentle humour and respect.
Training, qualifications & experience
I enjoy working with people of all ages and have a special interest in issues such as grief, bereavement, anxiety, low self-esteem, loneliness and depression.
As well as being a qualified counsellor I have worked with young people for over 22 years, some with behavioural challenges who describe me as kind and approachable. I also have training in mindfulness, specifically for teenagers and have vast experience of working and supporting adolescents, those in their twenties and the decades beyond.
On top of my private practice, I have also worked at the Pastoral Foundation, an established and renowned counselling charity.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Teenage Children Support: Maybe you want to know more about how the teenage brain works, perhaps you are looking for ways to build an emotionally healthy relationship with your child or you just need to talk about family life? Being a parent in the 21st century can be both complex and challenging. I have over 20 years of experience working with teenagers in an education setting, combined with supporting young people in a therapeutic environment.

Further information
With experience of both face-to-face and remote sessions, I can provide a range of ways for us to work together. During the first session, I will invite you to share more about the issue(s) that brought you to seek counselling.
Prior to the first session, I am happy to any questions you might have and explain the confidentiality policy by which I abide. I will do this via email/phone.
Appointments are usually arranged on a weekly basis (though you might prefer twice monthly or even to do all sessions remotely). We can discuss and plan these together when we meet. I can offer short term work (typically 6-12 sessions) or longer term work depending on what is needed and what you feel will work best for you.
