About me

Welcome to my page. Whether you are seeking support for yourself or your child, it can be a daunting experience so let me try to put you at ease a little.

You may be considering counselling for a very specific reason such as a bereavement, anxiety, or bullying, but you may also be feeling that something just doesn't feel quite right, a little out of sorts but can't quite pinpoint what that is about, and that is ok, this is where I come in.

Whatever your reason for reaching out, I will not judge and I will work with you, or your child, in a confidential and collaborative way. I work within the boundaries of the BACP ethical framework to ensure best and safe practise. I offer a free initial telephone consultation where we can get to know each other a little better and discuss how best we can work together. If you are enquiring for your child, you may be feeling apprehensive about what counselling may entail for them, you want to protect them and do best by them and I understand that. I can talk you through the process and the ways in which I work with young people, answering any questions you may have.

The way in which I work is founded in the person centred approach. I strongly believe that we all have the answers we seek but recognise that there will be times where we need some support in finding them. Sometimes this process can be difficult and I am here to support you to explore what is happening for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

Upon graduating with a Psychology degree in 2012 I went on to study my MSc in Counselling Psychology at Keele University. I graduated from this course with Merit, with a particular interest in working with young people after my dissertation topic around bullying.

I went on to work for a charity as a school based counsellor for 3 years and then as a senior children's bereavement counsellor for a local Hospice. During this time I also worked for a local mental health charity as a mental health lifestyle coach, building my experience working with adults also.

I have undertaken extensive training in online and telephone counselling in response to COVID-19 to ensure ethical and safe practise. I am now competent in delivering counselling sessions in this format and have seen the benefits of this work with clients throughout the pandemic.

I am also a qualified supervisor for those seeking clinical supervision.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
