About me

I work with adults on a one-to-one basis and can help with a range of emotional and psychological issues that may be negatively impacting your life. You possess the innate ability to create positive and lasting change to enhance your overall well-being and make life what you want it to be - free from limiting beliefs and restrictive behaviours.  As a qualified Integrative counsellor and psychotherapist my role is to provide a safe, patient and constructive space for you to reach this. I offer a flexible approach combining different elements of counselling styles and techniques to tailor sessions to your needs and personal circumstances. I can provide short- or long-term therapy in person, online, via video call, or by telephone depending on your preferences. My clients are people just like you who have decided to find help to enable them to live their best lives.

I have experience of working closely with abuse, alcohol and substance misuse, anxiety, attachment, trauma, depression, loss, low confidence/self-esteem and significant life changes. I have personal and professional experience in domestic abuse, so know first-hand the harm it can have to your sense of self.

I regularly undertake continued professional development as best practice and have a strong interest in masculinity, men’s mental health and male sufferers of female perpetrated domestic abuse. Having worked with men, they experience issues including anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, stress, anger and grief, however, they may wait longer before seeking help due to mixed feelings and attitudes about talking to a professional and its benefits.

I am an advocate for normalising counselling as a self-care practice.

It may be that you do not see your issue listed above, please still contact me and we can chat about whether your problem is something I can help you with.

My Approach

I work holistically viewing mind, body, emotions, and spirit as inseparable aspects all requiring care and concern and in the essence of who you are energetically.

The therapeutic relationship is key to a successful outcome, and I believe in being real and showing up fully as my authentic self, that means I will bring my warmth, empathy, enthusiasm, and where appropriate humour to our connection. Client feedback is that I am down to earth and relatable.

If desired, I can incorporate creative interventions to help identify and explore unconscious thoughts and feelings or for times when it may be difficult to express emotions through words.

Why Counselling?

Sometimes life feels hard! We can often allow conflicts and unhelpful thought and behaviour patterns to get in the way of living an enjoyable and fulfilling one. It may be that you are experiencing distress or reached a crisis or turning point where you realise things are no longer acceptable as they are, you may have been struggling in private feeling like you should be able to manage or resolve your problems on your own, when it doesn’t have to be that way. Talking to a therapist is an effective way to regain control and get yourself back on track without having to filter your thoughts, feelings, and emotions, protect another party, or worry about burden. There isn’t a topic that is unwelcome, and you may be surprised by how quickly you begin to see changes.

How can I help?

The counselling room is a place where you can discuss issues of greatest importance to you, a confidential environment, built on trust, where you feel seen, heard, and validated, without judgement.

I will listen with respect and careful attention to what you choose to bring and through exploration, support at your own pace and gentle challenge, together we will work through what may be troubling you to assist in helping increase your self-awareness, better understand yourself and relationships with those around you, reframe problems or concerns, find your own solutions, or help you manage difficulties more easily by finding more productive ways of coping.  I will be on your side but not caught up with the difficulties themselves and I am trained to bring you to a safer more comfortable place.

I am passionate about the work I do with others and would love to be able to help you.

A little bit more about me: I would say that I am a good balance of extrovert and introvert – outgoing but a homely person too. My journey started in complementary therapy. I love being in nature, sunrises, sunsets, and long walks with my headphones in, I have a real varied taste in music.

Beginning the Journey

Choosing to seek help and support through counselling is a brave decision often made in the most challenging times, and there can be many fears and unknowns about coming for the first time, but if you feel I may be the right person to support you and are ready to take the next step in contacting me, my purpose is to welcome you, de-mystify counselling and make the process as comfortable and reassuring as possible.

By reaching out and starting you will be on your way to feeling more grounded and balanced in your life; emerging the best version of yourself and feeling empowered in making decisions – just imagine how good that might feel?

Our first session will be an opportunity for us to get to know each other more, ensuring we will be a good fit to work together, we will discuss what has brought you to counselling and what you would like to achieve from our time together, I will take some background information, talk you through some formalities and will be happy to answer any questions you may have. If you are happy to continue, a regular weekly session day and time will be agreed and reserved for you. There can be some flexibility to this subject to availability.

If you would like to book a session or wish to discuss anything further, please do not hesitate to contact me by email, text, or telephone call. I look forward to hearing from you.

Together you can!

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
