About me

You may be –

  • In the midst of a crisis and/or struggling with a specific issue.
  • Looking for support to navigate a difficult relationship breakdown .
  • Feeling dissatisfied with life and looking to unburden your thoughts and feelings.
  • Feeling depleted by patterns of self-neglect and the debilitating effects of burn-out.
  • Struggling to assert your boundaries, while deprioritising your needs in favour of work and relationships.
  • Seeking support with an important transition - career, identity, bereavement, relocation, parenthood, childlessness.
  • Dealing with the impacts of trauma, abuse, insecure attachment, and an overstimulated nervous system.
  • Struggling with self-esteem and self-worth while battling feelings of shame, guilt, resentment, and fear.
  • Concerned about the state of the world – the climate, political landscape, the oppressive and systemic issues of ‘post-capitalism’.
  • Desperate to reconnect with your sense of purpose and find greater meaning in life.

Perhaps you have now reached a point where you are looking for greater stability and clarity in your life and your relationships. I am interested in everything about you that sheds light on your problems and how you might cope better. My job is to bring your awareness to all of who you are so you can start living spontaneously through creativity rather than habit.

With a background in factual and documentary filmmaking, I have always been captivated by the power of human stories to inspire and connect us. As a therapist, I view every person’s story as a potent force for self-discovery and self-renewal. By working creatively and collaboratively with you, I hope to breathe fresh life into your outdated narratives and turn dramatic life moments into important opportunities for meaning-making and personal growth.

I know finding the right therapist can be daunting. That’s why I offer a complimentary chat where you can  share your story, ask questions, and most importantly, see if we click. Feeling at ease and supported in therapy is essential, and this initial chat allows us to establish that foundation.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a Gestalt therapist with an MA and a Psychotherapy Practitioner Diploma in Gestalt Therapy and a Certificate in Relationship and Couples Counselling.

I split my practice between working one-to-one with individuals and doing relationship therapy with romantic partners (spanning the Gender, Sexuality and Relationship diversity (GSRD) spectrum), as well as with siblings/family members, friends, and co-founders/work colleagues. I also co- facilitate personal development groups and work with organisations to support meaningful cultural change.

My approach is humanistic and integrative, and my style is embodied, relational and creative. Alongside Gestalt, I also draw from disciplines like Neuroscience, Somatic and Sensorimotor therapies to meet and support the different situations my clients present. I understand the significance of the mind-body connection in healing and how important the therapeutic relationship is  for nourishing the safety necessary for this to happen. I am especially focussed on using embodiment and creative methods in a whole systems approach to therapy; issues of culture and difference; and the role of therapy in the service of social justice and equality. I am trauma-informed, attachment-focused, and deeply committed to antiracist, anti-oppressive practice.

I support clients facing a range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, work-related stress, relationship difficulties, sexuality issues and bereavement/loss.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information

Individual therapy usually takes place once a week for 50-minutes and it can be either:

·      Brief (6 to 12 sessions) – more structured and focused on solving the identified problem or situation.

·      Long-term– open-ended work that may last for a few months and sometimes even a few years.

·      Deep dive (90-minutes) – extended one-off sessions aimed at getting to the core of your situation and addressing the barriers to your healing and happiness. These sessions are often very useful for gaining clarity and determining the next steps in your journey.

My fee is a sliding scale from £60 - £95 for 50-minute sessions and £120-150 for 90-minutes deep dive sessions.

For couples I offer a sliding scale of £100 -150 per pairing/polycule for 75-minute sessions.

25% of my practice is sliding scale/low cost for people who genuinely can't afford the full fee. These spaces are generally full, with a waiting list of a few months, but you are welcome to enquire.

Further information

I specialise in working with individuals who have endured various forms of trauma, including sexual abuse, CSA, emotional neglect, domestic abuse, bullying, gaslighting and narcissistic abuse, as well as relational and transgenerational trauma.  Whether this stems from your relationships with partners, friends, work colleagues, family members or is a symptom of your wider ancestral story, I am committed to helping you navigate the bewildering effects of trauma and to providing the tools necessary to regulate your nervous system.

You may identify as a survivor or a highly sensitive person who experiences overwhelming feelings more acutely than others. Perhaps you are struggling with panic attacks, chronic pain, intrusive and/or suicidal thoughts, flashbacks, and nightmares. Maybe you have a diagnosis such as bi-polar disorder, borderline personality disorder (BPD/EUPD), generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), or chronic post-traumatic stress disorder (c-PTSD). Untangling this devastation requires patience and resourcing to restore a sense of balance.

In Gestalt Therapy, clients are not perceived as deficient or lacking in ability; rather, they are viewed as individuals who have adapted to their situations in the best way possible. Often, it is these adaptations that need to be updated to reduce the emotional suffering. I recognise that most of us have encountered trauma, particularly relational trauma, which often affects our attachments as adults. Habits and narratives developed due to our upbringing and experiences may no longer serve us. My mission is to assist in breaking free from these patterns for a more fulfilling life.

I work in partnership with you to help you release these areas of ‘stuckness’. I begin by creating a confidential and secure space where I can truly understand and support you as we actively engage in a dynamic dialogue, exploration of bodily sensations, analysis of the therapeutic relationship, and a range of creative methods.

By focusing on your history and experiences in relation to how you show up in the present, I can help you navigate life's challenges with greater awareness, so that you can begin to make conscious choices that more effectively address the tensions and dilemmas in your relationships and sense of self. This often involves diving deep into your thought patterns, behaviours, conflicting emotions, paradoxes, meanings, imagery, and metaphors, while addressing your unique concerns and issues.

Perhaps you are considering plant medicines as a treatment option for your symptoms. While I do not offer psychedelic therapy, I would be happy to explore your feelings about this with you and support you to make meaning of your experience afterwards.

I also provide relationship therapy, commonly known as couples counselling. This service is designed for individuals seeking to improve connections with their romantic or sexual partner(s), and it's equally applicable to friends, family members, co-founders, work colleagues, and more.

My role is to support partners to increase understanding of one another in your present-moment experiences. By becoming a third-party in these dynamics, I help partners to identify communication patterns, while exploring your emotions, so that new strategies for connection, empathy and understanding can be reached. Diversity, intercultural and intersectional understandings in relationship strongly underpin my approach.

Whether creativity is a part of your job or a hobby, I am passionate about helping you untangle the knots blocking your ability to imagine, play, explore, create and dream. With a wealth of experience in leading creative teams, I've developed a unique approach that nurtures creativity, empowering you to overcome obstacles and manifest meaningful change. Feel free to email me for more details.

Client Testimonial

I’ve been with Kelly for several years working on my childhood sex abuse, depression and complex ptsd. She has been incredibly patient, even when I have resisted her support. She regularly checks in to see how the pace of our sessions are going and gently pushes and challenges me forward. Kelly has been the most attentive therapist I have ever had. She’s compassionate and genuinely wants to help people live a happier fuller life away from trauma. I’m extremely grateful to have her guiding me through the darkness of my past and present. Thank you for all you have done.  KL, Bradford-upon-avon.
