About me

I am a qualified psychodynamic counsellor and secondary school teacher with 20 + years of experience working in education and supporting young people. I qualified as a counsellor in 2013 and use my counselling skills in pastoral support in secondary schools, in my role as a guidance teacher. I offer counselling to adults and young people using my experience from working in education alongside my counselling experience, in a 1-1 setting.

I have found counselling to be life changing for many people. It has enabled clients and colleagues to understand themselves, their experiences, and their 'problems' from a different perspective, allowing healing and personal growth to take place.

Psychodynamic work explores some of the routes of the feelings a person may be experiencing. Through counselling you can explore how the impact of early experiences can influence life even now. You can process some of the more challenging events in your life and begin to heal. Psychodynamic counselling is more than sharing your story, having someone listen, empathise and advise. It is a relational therapy and encompasses more than the words which pass between counsellor and client, by working through your feelings and acknowledging many different aspects of yourself.

I use skills from other disciplines to enhance my work and am always open to learning about new ways of working and incorporating new research into the way I work. Being mindful and using meditation and breath work for example has been helpful with some clients.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I adhere to strict ethical guidelines in my practice.

I have worked with clients on issues related to anxiety, depression, bereavement, suicidal ideation, stress and post traumatic stress, addiction, women’s health and more.

Sessions begin with an introductory meeting where a history of the presenting issues will be discussed. This assessment will influence how the work proceeds. I can offer short-term sessions, long term sessions and either face-to-face or online.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained at the Garnethill Centre in Glasgow and have gained experience in counselling through various secondary schools, the Pastoral Foundation in Edinburgh, the Health Agency in Wester Hailes, Edinburgh, the Garnethill Centre in Glasgow, and privately.

I hold a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling as well as an MA Hons, PGCE, PG Diploma Education.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
