About me

Hello and welcome to my profile. My name is Julie and I am a fully qualified and experienced counsellor.

I appreciate how daunting and possibly overwhelming it can be trying to choose a counsellor. It might even be difficult to reach out and ask for help but please remember that sometimes we all struggle and feel anxious or depressed and sometimes we just need someone to talk to.

Counselling can provide you with that place to talk as well as helping you to understand yourself and make positive changes so please don't be afraid to get in touch. I am very approachable and will always aim to respond to you as soon as I can.

I work with the belief that you are the expert on yourself and therefore I respect your thoughts and feelings. Everything you experience is valid and I will not judge you. My aim is to offer a friendly and non-judgmental space for you to talk openly and in confidence.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked in teaching and understand how stressful and how difficult it is to put boundaries in place to support yourself for you to be able to support others. Sessions can help you reflect on any guilt you might be feeling and work toward balancing being effective at work and still have energy for yourself.

I have also worked for several years in a variety of agencies and charities prior to starting my own private practice. My previous experience includes volunteering for Cruse Bereavement Care and a practitioner's role for the local MIND working in NHS GP Surgery supporting people for a wide variety of mental health reasons.

My qualifications include:

  • Level 4 - Diploma of Therapeutic Counselling
  • Level 2 & 3 - Certificates in Counselling Skills
  • Cruse Trained Bereavement counsellor

I also attend training and workshops throughout the year on topics ranging from ecotherapy, creative counselling, single session therapy to positive psychology

Further information

If you decide to book an appointment you might be wondering what to expect.

To give you an idea, a typical first session will involve me asking some questions about you and what it is that is troubling you or causing you concern. This might be something specific that you can identify easily or a general, less obvious feeling that is difficult to describe. Either is fine and I will do my best to help you explore not only what is causing you difficulty but also what you would like from the counselling sessions. You only need to share what you feel comfortable sharing. I work in a respectful manner and am guided by you at all times.

It is important that you feel at ease with me so with this in mind, it is your choice whether you book any further sessions. Should you wish to have further sessions I will go through a working agreement (contract) with you.

From then on, sessions are usually weekly although it is possible to have fortnightly sessions instead. Each session is your space to talk about whatever it is you would like to bring to the session.

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.
