About me

I am a fully qualified and experienced counsellor, working from a comfortable therapy room in the Buckinghamshire town of Princes Risborough. This is within easy reach of Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Thame, Chinnor, the M40 and surrounding areas. In line with Public Health Guidance, I am currently working on-line via Zoom or Skype. I will resume face-to-face consultations in Autumn 2021, but will continue to offer on-line sessions. I work with adults (18+) from all cultures, orientations and backgrounds and have experience of working with people who are struggling with a broad range of emotional issues. You may be struggling with depression or anxiety. Perhaps you have been affected by a loss, or have experienced trauma. Your relationships with family, friends or colleagues might feel complicated or stuck. Or maybe you have a sense that something just isn't quite right, even if you are not sure what it is. There are many reasons why we seek support from counselling.

I offer weekly, 50 minutes sessions in a confidential, consistent and non-judgemental space. Together we will look at the roots of how your problems developed and how those experiences may be influencing your life today. We can think carefully how things might change, so that you can aim to live your life in a different way.

Training, qualifications & experience

Education

University College London, Bsc (Hons)
Advanced Professional Diploma in Integrative Counselling
Professional Membership of British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (MBACP)

Before I qualified as a counsellor I worked clinically in the NHS for many years, mainly in the fields of neurology and cancer care. The medical knowledge and experience I gained through this work has given me a particular understanding and interest in the links between our physical and emotional health.

In addition to my private practice, I have worked for a number of years as a counsellor at South Bucks Counselling, a charity in High Wycombe offering reduced cost counselling to the local community. I continue to update my skills and learning by regularly attending Continuing Professional Development courses (workshops, conferences, further training). As is mandatory for all counsellors, I receive regular supervision in order to maintain the highest standard of practice. I am fully insured and hold an enhanced DBS check.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), the largest professional body representing counselling and psychotherapy in the UK. As such, I adhere to their Ethical Framework which underpins the importance of client care and confidentiality.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
