About me

I offer an opportunity to talk freely, in complete confidence and without fear of judgement about something that is causing you unhappiness or difficulties. You will have space and time to reflect and to stand back from your problems, with my support. We will work together to understand what you want from therapy and then to make the necessary changes, and/or to find strategies that help you.

I can support you to resolve a range of issues including:

  • anxiety
  • chronic fatigue
  • ME and ME symptoms
  • ADHD
  • stress
  • abandonment issues
  • panic attacks
  • bereavement
  • family issues
  • experience of trauma, either directly or as a witness
  • depression
  • relationship difficulties
  • family issues
  • low self-esteem
  • lack of confidence
  • weight problems

I have had therapy prior to and throughout the course of my training and I understand that talking about distressing events and very personal situations can be difficult and uncomfortable. We will work at your pace and I hope you will find me approachable and patient.

I usually have weekly sessions with clients, at least to begin with, as I have found that this helps foster a strong therapeutic relationship. In turn, this helps our work together to progress. However, I understand that this is not always possible, for a variety of reasons, and we will discuss together what works best for you in your particular situation.

I also offer workshops and talks to community groups and corporate organisations. Please contact me to discuss your requirements.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold the following qualifications:

  • Post-graduate Diploma in Transactional Analysis Counselling;
  • BSc Plant Biology;
  • PhD Plant Biology.

I work within the BACP Code of Ethics and Professional Practice Guidelines. As part of my continuing professional development, I undertake regular supervision and peer supervision, as well as attending workshops and conferences.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I started my working life in a very different sector and spent 25 years working for a large, multi-national corporate engineering design company.  I sought therapy to resolve a stress related illness and this enabled me to make some significant and positive changes to my life. These changes included a growing interest in the theory and practice of counselling and therapy, which led to my training and qualification.

Talking to a therapist can help you to understand your difficulties, identify unhelpful patterns of behaviour and support you to make new choices.

Whatever the difficulty you are experiencing, and however insurmountable it might seem, please don’t struggle on alone; get in touch.

My experience in the corporate sector gives me an understanding of this environment, which I use in my workshops. Please get in touch to discuss your requirements if you’re interested in a workshop.
