About me

I am a psychotherapist accredited with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I offer space and time for individual therapy, couple counselling, and supervision of counselling work.

My psychotherapy philosophy is that everyone has the resources within themselves to find meaning, purpose and fulfilment in their lives. When there are difficulties - whether from external life events, problematic relationship issues, or other internal psychological struggles, a confidential therapeutic relationship, in which the issues of concern can be faced, explored and worked on, can help with finding new ways forward.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been working as a counsellor and psychotherapist for more than 20 years, in Private Practice, Social Services and the NHS. In these different settings I have provided individual therapy; group work for people suffering with depression; a specific suicide prevention service within Liaison Psychiatry NHS; couple counselling and supervision for counsellors.

My core training has been in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy which has an understanding that early life experiences and associated coping strategies, have a strong impact on present ways of relating. In 2014 I qualified as a Dynamic Interpersonal Therapist. This therapy modality known as DIT, is recognised within the NHS as an evidence-based alternative to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for people suffering with depression and anxiety. In addition to these extensive trainings I have continued my professional development attending workshops covering many different therapy modalities.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

All of the experiences referred to above have enriched my understanding of what it is to be human, and have given me many different resources and strategies to draw on that can be useful to people in different circumstances.

My therapeutic approach is to be open to the specialness and uniqueness of each individual, to work collaboratively with my clients within the therapeutic relationship, and to draw on my skills and experience creatively for the benefit of the people I work with.
