About me

I am an experienced, Integrative Counsellor and have been working in private practice now for 7 years. I am also trained as an EMDR therapist.

I am an accredited member of the BACP (724335) and a member of the EMDR Association UK.

I take part in regular Supervision to ensure that my practice is safe.

Areas of particular interest: Trauma and supporting parents within the Postpartum Period.

About Me and My Approach

During my training at University of East London (2013) I was drawn to several different therapy approaches; Person-centred Approach, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Theory and Transactional Analysis. My practice has grown to enable me to integrate these modalities within my work and go on a journey with my client where they can develop an awareness of their inner world and grow. Although these theories are all different, these theories overlap and centre around the importance of the therapeutic relationship, particularly the Person-centred approach. It is through this overlap that my practice is influenced by these approaches. Therefore, through experiencing the importance of the therapeutic relationship and through my own personal therapy, I feel that the theory which underpins all of my practice, and the one which has led to my own self-discovery is the Person-centred Approach (PCA).

Having had personal therapy and throughout my training, I was able to be fully vulnerable and it was through my therapist’s non-judgemental approach that I felt safe to do so. Therefore, I was able to understand the growth that came from learning to accept myself and the freedom that came from self-discovery. The change that occurred was rooted in the PCA approach and I was further drawn towards this. With PCA being my core modality, I place great value in the development of a trusting, therapeutic relationship. Within my practice I feel this is important, and it is through building trust that the individual learns to trust in their own abilities and build on their own self-concept.

I see each person as unique and the expert of their own world, therefore my integrative approach allows me to tailor therapy to meet the individual’s needs. My approach allows me to be flexible and to be guided by the individual.

Throughout the years I have taken part in many ongoing training opportunities which I feel is very important. My most recent qualification is in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) where I qualified in April 2023. In most recent years my interest in Trauma has grown and I am working towards becoming an EDMR practitioner at present.

I also work at Mind full time (since 2016) within NHS Talking Therapies. Within my role I have worked with many different presentations and difficulties, delivering low intensity CBT, Counselling and EMDR. During this time my interest in supporting those with postpartum issues has grown.

Having been in therapy myself it has allowed me to understand how scary it can be reaching out for help and I know how difficult it can be to take that first step! If you would like to book in a brief assessment to get to know each other before making any commitment please email me!

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
