About me

Are you a woman or woman of colour currently feeling nervous, anxious or on edge? Are you worrying too much about different things? Do you feel like you're struggling to balance the demands of your family, community, and values with your own needs?

There are many reasons why you may be feeling this. Work or personal life experiences may have been particularly demanding lately. Maybe you’ve moved to a new place and are struggling to feel at home. Or you may have experienced a loss, tragic incident, traumatic, or stressful event that has left you shaken up and struggling to make sense of what happened. It's possible that this experience has left you with a sense of hopelessness or shattered your sense of trust in others or the world around you. You’ve come to a point where you are feeling exhausted, and you are not able to cope with these feelings anymore.

If you are struggling, you may think there is something "wrong" with you, but the truth is all mental health problems happen for a reason. As a counselling psychologist, I am here to support you in addressing your specific needs. My approach is to create a warm and welcoming environment where you can comfortably discuss your painful experiences and work together to address them.

With my services, you will be able to gain a better understanding of your emotional and psychological needs, make informed changes in your life and live a more fulfilling one. You will learn to quiet the inner critic and develop resilience, authenticity, and compassion in yourself and in your community.

My clinic days run on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays and I am currently accepting new clients. I have made it easy for you to schedule therapy sessions with me, instead of playing phone tag, simply visit my website (www.drjalhakim.com) to complete the form or email me by clicking the green button (drjalhakim@gmail.com) to share your availability and schedule your free, no-obligation 20-minute phone consultation today.

Training, qualifications & experience

As a woman of colour and a migrant, I understand the unique challenges that come with navigating multiple identities and cultural backgrounds. I also appreciate the difficulties in finding support catered to our own experiences. My practice was born out of a belief that we shouldn't be ashamed of our struggles and that we don't have to go through them alone. I strive to create a safe and inclusive space for individuals from diverse backgrounds to explore and process their experiences. I am committed to providing culturally responsive and sensitive therapy, and to promoting social justice in my practice.

In addition to my professional qualifications and expertise, my personal experiences and identity inform my understanding of the unique challenges that my clients may face. I believe that this allows me to offer a unique perspective and understanding to my clients, which can be beneficial for their healing and growth process.

Aside from my work as a therapist, I work as an educator and researcher. I train and supervise counselling psychology trainees and humanitarian psychosocial practitioners. And, my special interests lay in delivering humanitarian interventions post-conflict. I regularly take the time to update my knowledge and experience as I am committed to lifelong learning.

I look forward to working with you, and to helping you navigate the difficult emotions and experiences you are facing.
