About me

I am an integrative counsellor with a person-centred background which means I believe you have the capacity and ability inside you to bring about your own healing under the correct conditions.

I use a variety of therapeutic techniques but tailor your therapy specifically and uniquely to fit you.

Perhaps you are anxious, overwhelmed, or struggling to cope; or feelings of depression, anger or grief are becoming too much to bear. You may be wondering whether you have ADHD, or have recently been diagnosed and are needing guidance and support.
Maybe you finding it difficult to sleep and relax or simply need a space to offload present stresses?

Whatever the reason you are seeking help, I can guide you through the emotions you are experiencing, and help you find the answers to long-term or more recent problems.

Together we can get to the heart of your difficulties to enable you to be free of your anxiety and concerns.

I am committed to a fully inclusive service and welcome individuals of any gender, age, sexuality, ethnicity or ability. I listen with complete acceptance, and you can be assured you will be treated with care, respect and empathy.
Together we will explore what is on your mind in your own time, at your own pace.

I have particular experience in issues connected to children and family life, health related concerns, ADHD and with the LGBTQ community.

I aim to provide the right therapeutic environment to enable you to heal and bring about the change you desire. I adhere to the BACP ethical framework, and you can trust that you will be safe and not judged.

I am available to see clients face to face in a therapy suite in Macclesfield town centre, close to the station. I also see clients online via Zoom, or over the telephone. I also can offer face to face outdoor counselling in spring/summer and will visit you in your own home if needed.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a BA (Hons) in Psychology, a PGCE and a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling.

In 2020 during the pandemic, I qualified as a registered online and telephone counsellor.

I am a  Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and am comfortable working with clients suffering from recent or past trauma.

A large percentage of my clients have some degree of neurodiversity and since my own children were diagnosed with ADHD I qualified as an ADHD Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP)

I have previous experience as a Samaritan and a Samaritan trainer and leader.

The safety of my clients is paramount. In addition to being a registered member of the BACP and National counselling Society, I have professional indemnity insurance and am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office.

My previous background is working with NHS staff and university students.

I have experience working with young adults and extensive knowledge of children and young people as a former primary school teacher and mum of 4.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

The premises are on one level and a wheelchair accessible room can be used if required.
