About me

Thank you for looking at my profile. I am a fully qualified therapeutic counsellor and a BACP registered member. I offer short term and open ended counselling in a counselling centre in East Oxford; face to face and on-line. In addition to my private practice, I am a counsellor assessor in a women's counselling centre and a counselling supervisor in a men's counselling service; previously I was a counsellor in these centres for a few years.

You may be considering counselling for current or past experiences, to change old patterns or you may not know why you are experiencing certain thoughts and feelings that are impeding upon your life. Counselling is an opportunity for you to invest in yourself, as a counsellor gives you the space to be heard, accepted and valued. A counsellor being alongside you, gives you the opportunity to be supported in your current difficulties or past issues to enable change or to consider how to reconcile with what you cannot change, so you may embrace the kaleidoscope of life.

To enable you to feel safe to disclose what is happening for you and to have the freedom to explore, you need to experience your counsellor is genuine, non-judgmental, empathetic and compassionate.

If you have any questions or would like to book an initial session, please do get in touch with me via email or phone. Also, please click on my website link for additional information, including guidance on choosing a therapist, what is and what happens in counselling and psychotherapy and useful website links.

If you call to enquire further, please do not be put off if you get my confidential answer phone message, as I check messages throughout the day. Please leave your preferred contact details and I will contact you as soon as possible.

My therapy room is in a counselling centre in East Oxford, within easy reach of the city centre and the ring road. There is free street parking spaces and the number 3 bus stop is within a couple of minutes walk.

Training, qualifications & experience

Prior to my counselling training, I managed a County Council Leaving Care Service, supporting care leavers aged 16-25, including people seeking asylum. Also, I have worked in supported housing with adults, young parents and vulnerable young people and in a domestic abuse service. Therefore, I have over 30 years’ experience in supporting people through life's diverse challenges.

  • Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling: Principles and Practice (1996 to 2000), validated by Oxford Brookes University.
  • Foundation Degree in Humanistic Counselling based on Transactional Analysis (2013 to 2015). A BACP accredited course and validated by Middlesex University.
  • BA (Hons) in Humanistic Counselling based on Transactional Analysis (2015 to 2016: one year top up).
  • NVQ 4 in Social and Health Care Management

My motivation for on-going learning and an interest in Transactional Analysis (T.A.) led me to undertake further post qualification counselling training. I am committed to continual professional development training and I attend regular supervisions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
