Child & Adult Psychotherapy Art Therapy. Autism assessor.

About me

Hello, I'm James - Director and lead at JP-Psychotherpies.  By experiencing compassionate curiosity, through Counselling Psychotherapy or Art Therapy you, (adult or child) are offered a safe space, where I support your challenges.

I specialise in Autism (and the internal/external problems faced by so many), Shame, Anxiety, ADHD, Depression, Family issues, Addictions, OCD, PDA, Trauma, Low Self-Esteem, Self-Harm, Eating Disorders, Grief & Loss, Anger, Stress and so much more.  We are human and complex and so we need space and time to work it over.

Empathy, unconditional warmth and curiosity inform our space together, enabling us to build a connection in a safe, confidential time where you can feel seen and heard.  I work with your needs; helping you gain deeper understanding of your experiences, difficulties and processes.  Together we can process growth and meaningful change.  Your lived experience is unique.  I cultivate open curiosity, not assumptions.

I'm trained in many approaches and have developed my own way of working as a result.  In particular I draw from psychodynamic, existential, Jungian psychodynamic, gestalt, CBT, humanistic, relational, and body (somatic) psychotherapies, as well as creative and arts therapies.  I work with individuals and groups.

A little on Art therapy.  It's a myth that you have to be good at art to take part.  Image creation can be expressive in its own right.  What you make might be more to do with a dream, memory or just something light.  It can be a break from talking, allowing you to just make for its own sake with no pressure.  The process can be the most important part.  Clay work also informs my work.

I support people with post-traumatic stress, addictions and OCD.  I have supported NHS, adoption services, LGBTQIA+, schools, colleges, autism (North East Autism Society), ADHD, counselling charities, occupational health and the private sector.

I cover a huge range of mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, bereavement, self-harm, trauma, suicidal ideation, loss, end of life care, anger, addictions, abuse, various psychoses and many other conditions.

Seeking help and guidance takes courage.  By looking on this page you have taken a brave step!

Being Integrated means I can draw upon a wide range of therapeutic approaches and tailor them to your needs.  Over time I hope to support a deeper understanding of yourself.

Don't see your issue on my page?  Please contact me to discuss what you might need because people seek therapy for many reason, some of which can be out of our awareness until we work with another person.  Contact me for a free 15-minute consultation with no obligation for further sessions.

My calmness can let you settle into a relationship that can be built upon whereby we can eventually get to your concerns that can be fully explored.  I'm not so much into 'techniques' as such, I am Person Centred and instinctual and authentic in my responses.  This enables me to actively listen to you, deepening a secure base for exploration.  Some CBT training enables me to help you to identify patterns in your behaviour that you might wish to alter.  The way we work can be agreed together.

I work face to face, remotely over the phone or online using secure apps.
