About me

If you are suffering because of a bereavement or a loss in your life (a breakup, chronic illness, infertility, miscarriage, financial instability), feeling sad about your present state or anxious about the future, I can help you go through your emotional and psychological difficulties, exploring together patterns and how these can be changed, so you can live your present with joy and love for yourself and the people you care about most.

My extensive experience and warm approach has helped many people to live a fulfilled life, finding purpose and grow around their losses. People who have worked with me have said:

"I have found myself changing in a really positive way throughout this process. It’s been a pleasure to talk to you Irene, and the ease I felt trusting and opening up to you is an absolute testament to your skills as a therapist"

"Talking with you is always the one time in my week where I feel like I’m actually being listened to"

"I have learned a lot from you, not just in your guidance and challenges, but in the way you listen, and the safety you project - and I hope very much to assimilate those traits from you"

If you need an extra support in this phase of your life, email me for a brief consultation (free of charge).

How Counselling can help?

In my counselling work I integrate evidence based psychological therapies to tailor the best therapy around the person's needs and expectations.

I usually work on different levels. Using a more Cognitive Behavioural approach (CBT) to challenge thoughts and adjust behaviours that are detrimental in the day-to-day life, but also explore at a deeper level where those patterns are coming from and to allow the person to go through their feelings and get in touch with their real self, holding them in a safe non judgemental space.

My expertise is around:

  • Bereavement and Grief
  • Fertility, miscarriages and abortion
  • Life changes and Losses
  • Relationship challenges
  • Difficulty in relating to others
  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Depression
  • Low self-esteem
  • Anger management
  • Trauma
  • Illnesses and death anxiety

I am an attentive listener, with an attitude of tolerance and respect. This comes from a rich experience of working with people from different cultures, professions, genders and sexual orientations.

I work in a flexible way, offering short and long term therapy, in person and online. In English and also in Italian.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

In my extra time I volunteer for the Mulberry Centre at West Middlesex Hospital, supporting cancer patients and their carers. I also volunteer one evening per week for an agency providing counselling to people with no income, as I believe that emotional support has to be accessible to everyone when needed.
