About me

AVAILABILITY: - I currently have spaces for counselling supervision (in eating disorders) and training for counsellors (Eating Disorders and Body Image).  I have no 1-1 therapy client spaces. You may be interested in my online courses  (Intuitive Eating and Bulimia Recovery).

Hi, I'm Harriet, I'm an experienced counsellor specialising in eating disorders and body image. I have worked in an NHS Adult Eating Disorder Service and private practice since 2003. I have personal experience of bulimia nervosa and have been fully recovered for many years.

I'm passionate about eating disorders and enjoy writing, filming and creating information through my podcast and social media, to help and support others.

My podcast: The Eating Disorder Therapist can be found on all major platforms.

My Approach is Integrative Counselling.

This means I help you understand your past and the contributing factors to the eating disorder development. I also provide you with the tools and therapy skills to become your own therapist and to recover from an eating disorder, as well as reading and training materials provided, tailored to your specific needs.

I am supportive of an anti-diet approach and Intuitive Eating Principles, and I am passionate about helping people recover from eating problems and improving in their confidence and self-esteem.

In addition to ongoing counselling, I also offer Breakthrough Days - an intensive way to fast-track your progress and to unblock barriers to change.

I also offer online courses - 10 Steps to Intuitive Eating and Breaking Free From Bulimia. This is an affordable way to access the skills and learning that I use with my clients in the therapy room. It combines video and lecture content with practical strategies to help you find food freedom.

Please contact me by email or visit my website if you would like to find out more.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified Counsellor (Dip. Counselling) and an accredited, registered member of BACP (MBACP Accred). I also have specialist qualifications in eating disorders (Dip. Eating Disorders; Enhanced CBT E. Disorders; Masters Nutrition).

I have worked in an NHS Eating Disorder Service (inpatient and outpatient) and in private practice. I have experience of working with people with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder and OSFED (Other Specified Feeding and Eating Disorder). I also work with people who have a disordered relationship with food who might not meet a clinical diagnosis of an eating disorder.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
