About me

Hi, I’m Georgina, a BACP registered counsellor, currently offering both face to face and online counselling from my home in Wolstanton, Newcastle-under-Lyme.

Sometimes opening up to a stranger is an odd thought, but sometimes that’s what we need to do when we begin counselling. As a counsellor, I may be a stranger to you right now, but I am here to offer a warm, non-judgmental, confidential space for you to explore, offload and process life experiences. Life throws many curveballs our way, sometimes one at a time, or sometimes we have ten within the same day. Navigating this can be difficult, but ensuring that you have someone who listens, someone you trust with your information and a safe place to open up, this can help to make these feelings more manageable.

I have experience of working within a variety of settings providing support to people who need it. This includes:

·       Counselling within charity settings. One focusing on anxiety, low self-confidence and self-worth, stress, identity, family dynamics and another setting with a domestic abuse charity, focusing on survivors feeling heard, trusted, and empowered.

·       Youth Justice setting, working through the barriers and difficulties they face, understand the trauma and life experiences and supporting them to plan their future in a non-judgmental way.

·       Special Educational Needs and Disabilities settings. One supporting children and young people with Autism by providing activities in the community to build confidence, socialise with others and help with transitioning in different parts of their life. Another setting navigating SEND, empower families to advocate for themselves and their rights and to provide support with this process.

·       Education settings. Focusing on workplace stress, people pleasing, managing expectations and targets whilst also to feel valued, heard and respected in their profession.

All experience has helped me to understand that each individual person I work with, needs to be heard fully, greeted with warmth and compassion, and never judged. Everyone has a story, and I am here to listen to your story.

My counselling room is based in my home, with a separate door to access this. There are good transport links and on-street parking. Unfortunately, my office is not wheelchair friendly as I have a gravel drive and there is a step up into my office.

What I offer

Finding a counsellor who you ‘click’ with can be daunting, overwhelming and sometimes time-consuming, so I offer a free initial Zoom call of 20 minutes, where we can briefly discuss your counselling needs, any aims you have, if we can work together and any questions you may have.

After our initial 20 minute Zoom call, we can book in our first session, either online via Zoom/Google Meet, or face to face. If we decide to work online, I will send an online meeting invite before our scheduled session via email. If we decide to work face to face, I will email my address and directions to my home counselling room and any advice regarding parking.

I aim to reply to all emails within 48 hours. If you are waiting for me to respond, please check your Spam folder.

I offer both short term and long-term therapy, depending on your needs.

Counselling approach

As a person-centred counsellor, I believe that you are the expert on yourself, your life experiences and how you perceive your world. I take my lead from you, I listen without judgment, offer empathy, ask questions to ensure that I hear you fully and we work on a deeper level together to work through life events, both current and past.

Issues I work with

Counselling and Psychotherapy is an opportunity to untangle some of the life experiences we face through talking therapy. I have experience of working with anxiety and depression, low self-confidence and self-worth, family issues, difficult relationships, transition into another chapter of your life and navigating this (new job, moving home, entering parenthood) workplace stress and bereavement.

Availability

Appointments are available on Tuesday evenings from 4pm and Thursdays from 9:30am. If you require an appointment outside of these times, then please get in touch and we can discuss this.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
