About me
Hello! Thank you for visiting my page and a warm welcome to my profile.
I'm an experienced Counsellor & Psychotherapist and have a passion for helping people; that may be resolving a historic issue, working through a life change or crisis, overcoming something that is holding you back, or simply giving you the opportunity to talk to someone neutral, perhaps or the first time.
I've worked with a wide range of mental health difficulties both in clinical settings and private practice; these have included anxiety & depression, bereavement & loss, trauma & PTSD, low self-esteem, cancer recovery & diagnoses, workplace stress and life changes. I specialise in and have a passion for helping those struggling with addiction, particularly for families and friends affected by a loved one's often complex problems. I've found that it's still a very stigmatised area of mental health and frequently there's very little specialist support for families. It's common to feel a whirlwind of negative emotions from anxiety, depression or low mood, to anger, frustration, grief, isolation and loneliness.
I work with compassion, kindness and importantly no judgement, regardless of the circumstances. I provide a forum to express and process emotional distress, explore approaches, treatments or options, and a plan. Importantly I aim for you to feel hopeful and supported.
Getting help:
Taking that first step to get support may feel daunting, particularly if you have been coping with a difficulty for a long time, but I'm here to make that as gentle as possible at a pace that you feel comfortable with. Therapy is very much tailored towards your circumstances, your emotional needs and importantly, what you want to achieve by working with me.
Please do get in touch - I offer a free initial chat over the phone so you can decide if I'm the right person to work with you; we work together so it's important you feel comfortable with me!
Training, qualifications & experience
I use Human Given psychotherapy which focuses on our emotional needs as human beings and draws on some of the best elements of approaches such as person centred therapy, CBT, NLP, trauma-informed and solution focused therapy. I’m also trained in the use of the Rewind Technique for trauma/PTSD, motivational interviewing and a range of somatic, breathing & relaxation techniques, including guided imagery. Sessions are held with kindness, empathy and at a pace that works for you with the aim that you leave feeling listened to and optimistic.
I split my time between London and Kent working in substance misuse and in private practice. I am a member of the Human Givens Institute and as such I am bound by a strict code of ethics and receive regular supervision. I am fully insured and have enhanced DBS clearance.
Member organisations
The Human Givens Institute (HGI) is both a membership organisation and a professional body representing the interests of those in the caring and teaching professions who have an interest in or utilise the human givens approach. Counselling Directory register Registered Members (MHGI) and Fellow Members (FHGI), who will have completed the Post Graduate Practitioner's Assessment (Part III) and who are fully qualified to practise as a human givens therapist or counsellor. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
