About me

Hello, I'm Emma.

We all want enough space to talk sometimes.

People come to therapy for many reasons. You may be seeking a deeper sense of self-acceptance or would like to become even more of the person you’d like to be. It may be you're feeling overwhelmed by the experiences life brings. Or you’d like your relationships with others to feel more satisfying and fulfilling. Perhaps you're finding yourself in familiar situations time and again and want things to be different but you’re at a loss about to how to make it happen. It may be you’d like to live your life with greater freedom, contentment, and connection with yourself, and others.

Whatever your unique reasons are for coming to therapy, it's likely you've already been trying hard to figure things out on your own, or with help from friends or family. But sometimes we need to talk with someone who is trained to help us move forward. A good therapeutic relationship can foster lasting change.

A good psychotherapeutic relationship will ensure you feel actively heard and connected to. It provides the space for you to share things you may not have had the freedom or courage to express before.

In processing your experiences together, we'll build a space in which new options and ways of being will emerge and be nurtured.

I have a strong commitment to providing a therapy practice that celebrates diversity, and puts inclusivity at the core of our journey towards healing.  This includes providing a gender, sexuality, and relationship diversity affirming therapy space. This means I hold a firm belief that all genders, sexualities, and relationship types and structures are equal in value.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a four-year Postgraduate Diploma in Transactional Analysis (TA), and I use TA as my main way of working.

I really like the way TA uses simple, everyday language to explain its theories and concepts. It's particularly useful in helping us explore how, out of our awareness, our past experiences may be shaping our current feelings, thoughts and relationships.

I can also draw on theories and techniques to support you to learn to regulate your nervous systems when you're feeling anxious, rageful, irritated, overwhelmed, numb, or stuck.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
