About me

Clients often come to therapy and tell me that they just want to feel better. This feeling of wanting things to change is a great starting point, and we can work together to establish what this might mean for you and your life. I work with adults and young people aged 14+ on a range of issues and experiences in a relational way. I work hard to foster a therapeutic relationship based on equality, acceptance and authenticity. I aim to ensure that you aren't taking this journey alone - I am with you every step of the way.

I seek to offer clients a compassionate and non-judgemental space to explore themselves and their relationships with others, helping clients to feel safe enough to experience being heard and accepted. Together we will explore your experience: your thoughts, your emotions and how you experience feelings in your body. I work in a way which is sensitive to the impact of trauma on people's lives, placing an emphasis on safety and empowerment.

Some people want to explore what's happening for them through talking alone - that's always an option. Another possibility, particularly if you have experienced a traumatic event or relationship, is to work with movement and the body. I use a yoga-inspired form of movement which has a growing base of evidence to support its efficacy. Yoga and movement is available in individual sessions or as a group.

I understand that making contact to find a therapist can be very daunting, partly because it feels so important to find someone who you can work with. Please take advantage of a free 30 minute phone consultation with me to help you come to a decision about taking the next step. I can see you face to face in Newark or online.

*A recent client review* (shared with permission)

I really felt that you listened and helped me to make connections between my experiences, my thoughts and self- esteem. You helped me to make sense of things and I am surprised at how much was unlocked for me during a block of 6 sessions-far more than I ever expected! You helped me to realise I have many tools and strategies but most powerfully for me, have guided me towards using them together. I feel I am now far more positive with calm frame of mind. Thank you for the sense of control and peace you have helped me to achieve.

If you are a counselling student and are looking for personal therapy to support your development and/or fulfil the requirements of your course, please do get in touch for a conversation about whether or not I meet the specifics of what is required by your course provider. I offer a reduced fee of £30 to students who are studying counselling, psychotherapy and psychology.

Training, qualifications & experience

I graduated from the Sherwood Institute of Psychotherapy Training with a first class BSc in Humanistic and Integrative counselling and psychotherapy. I am also a certified Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Facilitator (TCTSY-F). I work in both talking therapy and yoga, and as a combination.

I have experience of working with adults and young people aged 14+, in a variety of settings, including schools, charities, women's centres and privately.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
