About me

Introduction

I am a Person-Centred Counsellor and Psychotherapist and an Accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy; I practice according to their code of ethics and provide a confidential and non-judgemental environment. The relationship between the counsellor and client is crucial to change occurring and I strive to ensure that my clients feel safe and accepted enough to explore issues, sometimes for the first time.

Experience

I have been practicing for eleven years and have considerable experience of working with survivors of childhood sexual abuse and issues that arise from this such as anxiety, depression, guilt, dissociation, grief and loss. Difficulty in moving on in your life can often be a result of past relationship issues or family issues and a cause of low self-esteem or low self-confidence.

As a Person-Centred therapist, I believe that clients are the experts of their world and I am here to listen and help explore troubles that are preventing clients from moving on with their life. The impact that talking in a warm and trusting environment has for a client cannot be under estimated and I believe strongly in valuing and accepting each individual.

First step

The first step is the hardest; if you decide to contact me, please leave a message and I will respond to you as soon as possible, within 24 hours if I can. I offer appointments outside of normal working hours for both short term and open ended therapy with weekly sessions of 50 minutes. We will arrange a mutually convenient time to meet and during that first session, together we will assess if we will be able to work together. Thereafter, we will book weekly appointments with a review after the first six sessions.

Location

My practice is in Balsall Common with parking available.  I am within easy access of Birmingham, Solihull, Kenilworth, Warwick, Leamington and Coventry.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I offer a therapeutic space to enable clients to feel they can explore the issues that are causing distress.  I feel that when a client feels safe and not judged, it is possible to open up and talk about how they are struggling, building a foundation of trust.  I have experience of working with survivors of childhood sexual abuse and feelings of loss.

I also have experience in working with families, parents who are struggling with their adolescents and feeling overwhelmed and with young people in their teens or twenties who are struggling with confidence or relationships.

Accessibility

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
