About me

As you take first tentative first steps, or are once again seeking support through a collaborative 1-2-1 process, perhaps you are wondering, why choose to work with me or what would this look like?

Firstly, I am a personal consultant - counsellor, psychotherapist and coach, a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy - MBACP, operating under and bound by the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.

I hold a BA (Hons) in Psychology and Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling & Coaching and am an experienced practitioner working and volunteering with individuals and organisations towards improved mental health and general wellbeing.

In terms of how I approach working, first and foremost is building a good working relationship within which we can feel secure exploring and facing your challenges together. Whatever you bring to counselling, I bring compassion and company for your journey and offer stability through a structured approach to the work.

We can begin with exploration, an opportunity to share your experiences, increase awareness and understanding around these and reveal the nature of issues you are seeking to resolve. This can help validate or create a clear picture of the change you might hope to achieve. Moving forward with a new awareness of the issues and your preferred outcomes, we can explore ways for you to best implement change for an improved lived experience.

My approach is flexible and takes into consideration how you present for each session. This allows for a suitable pace, pausing or stepping back if required. Moving towards any change is only by consent and with a full picture of what any change should look like for you.

Practice description:

Currently offer weekly 50-minute online and phone sessions. I generally work open-ended but short or fixed-term work can also be arranged.

A break in the work is planned to happen every 12-weeks, which gives clients and me an opportunity to pause and reflect on progress. These break weeks happen in the last weeks of March, June, September and December.

First sessions:

I offer a no-fee initial 30-minute consultation as an opportunity to explore how working together might feel and identify the best approach for you.

Therapeutic influences:

Person Centred, Existential and Gestalt plus Psychodynamic and Transactional Analysis underpin a lot of the early work, integrative counselling bringing Cognitive Behavioural and Solution Focused therapies together with therapeutic and general Coaching practice, as the work requires.

The Personal Consultancy framework is utilised as a guide and to underpin my work with clients.

Training, qualifications & experience

Relevant Qualifications:

  • Post-Graduate Diploma (Level 7) in Integrative Counselling and Coaching from University of East London, UK.
  • BA (Hons) Psychology, DBS, Dublin, Ireland.
  • Certificate in Exercise and Health Fitness, University of Limerick, Ireland.

In addition to my psychology, counselling and coaching qualifications, I have over 25 years of experience working with individuals and teams across several industries, supporting improved individual and group performance based on a person-centred approach.

I worked as a low-cost counsellor during my placement at Headstrong Counselling and have several years volunteering at The Listening Place in London, working directly with people who feel life is no longer worth living.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
