About me

Welcome. I am a warm, empathetic counsellor with a very broad range of life and professional experience. I am trauma-aware, and work with adults from different cultural, religious and migrant including refugee backgrounds, across LGBT+ communities, and with people engaged in creative practice.

Working both in person and online, I can offer longterm and time-limited (10-12 weeks) counselling to suit you and your needs.

I see counselling as a special kind of relationship, focussed on your emotional wellbeing. Here you will have time and space where you can feel safe and supported to talk about whatever may be troubling you. If you're feeling low, anxious or stuck, if life sometimes feels a struggle, or you have had or are still going through distressing, challenging or confusing experiences, counselling may help to improve your mental well-being. It can also be a way simply to explore and understand better who you are in the world, why your relationships are the way they are, and to get to know yourself better, with the possibility of being able to arrive at new or different ways of being that feel a better fit for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Humanistic Counselling and am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I adhere to the BACP's ethical guidelines. My Enhanced Certificate from the DBS gives me the highest level of clearance for work with vulnerable people.

Working as an integrative counsellor means that my training is very broad and I am able to tailor the way I work to your needs.

Alongside my private practice, I provide counselling to adults dealing with bereavement and loss in a specialist service.

Away from counselling, I have worked with refugees and asylum seekers, and am qualified in this area. I have a particular interest in trans-generational trauma.  I also have experience supporting people dealing with chronic health diagnoses, especially immune related disorders including MS, HIV/AIDs and cancer. I have my own experience of creative practice.

I feel it is important to continue my own personal and professional development and I am in regular therapy, as well as professional supervision, essential for practising therapists.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

In general therapy works best with weekly sessions. We try to arrange regular sessions at the same time each week, in order to best support the process, and usually a specific time is set aside for you for the duration of the therapy.

The process starts with a free, no-obligation 15-minute phone call to arrange a time for the initial consultation. Please let me know if you'd like to arrange this.

The initial consultation will take place online and is an opportunity to discuss what your expectations are and what you want to achieve from counselling, as well as ask me any questions you may have about the process. I'll also ask you some questions about what brings you to look for counselling. All this gives us the opportunity to decide if we can work together therapeutically. The fee for this is £60. After the appointment there will be time to reflect and think about if I am the right counsellor for you. If you decide that I am, then subsequent sessions can be booked.

Sessions are 50 minutes long and usually take place weekly, at the same time every week. My fees vary depending on whether we have agreed to see each other in the daytime or after 5pm, and whether online or in person.

I've organised my private practice fees to offer the widest access to my services. Those with broader shoulders support the free or low-cost counselling I provide elsewhere. Sessions are payable by cash at the end of the session or by bank transfer. An invoice can be provided if requested.
