About me

I am a qualified counsellor working with children, young people and adults.  Choosing a counsellor for yourself or for someone in your care can be hard and stressful.  It is really important that you make contact and then meet the counsellor in order to see whether you could work with them.  That you feel you will be listened to, understood and that the relationship you form with your counsellor will give you a genuine sense of being held and supported.

You have taken that step.  You have acknowledged that you/your child needs more support and you are looking for that person.  This is showing strength and a determination to get the support you feel you need.  This is where I can help you reflect on your needs, worries and how you cope because I believe that each client has the ability to find the answers and make the changes, they may just need someone there that can help them do that.  To keep you safe in moments of vulnerability and exploration.

When working with clients I offer various means for them to explore their feelings because sometimes saying the words can be too difficult to start with.  So I offer sand tray work, art and craft, play therapy, games - whatever the client feels more comfortable and safer using.

I adhere to working within the ethical framework guided by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

Training, qualifications & experience

Diploma in Higher Education, Counselling Children and Young People

I have counselled primary aged and secondary aged children and young people in school settings as well as in private practice.  Helping clients with grief, educational and peer pressures, family relationship dynamics, illness, anxiety and low confidence, and depression.

I have worked in schools for over 10 years, supporting children with additional needs - their self directed and reflective development of emotional, social and behavioural awareness.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
