About me

I'm an HCPC registered and charted clinical psychologist specialising in adult mental health (ages 18+). In my practice I use a range of psychological therapies, particularly elements of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), compassion-focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, person-centred counselling and positive psychology. I am passionate about not only helping people to overcome their difficulties, but to also uncover and build upon their strengths and resilience.

I have a particular interest in treating anxiety (and many of its various forms), as well as depression. I understand how much courage it takes to reach out for help and I strive to help my clients feel safe and secure so that they can move forwards.

I am an external lecturer for the University of Leeds clinical psychology programme and I also regularly mentor University of Hull undergraduate psychology students, as part of their e-Mentoring programme.

In my spare time I love gardening, walking, animals (especially dogs!), playing the piano and writing/recording music.

Please feel free to email or telephone me free of charge if you would like to find out more about how I work, etc. We can discuss whether or not I think it is something I can help you with, or possibly suggest another service instead.

First appointment

During your first appointment, we will have an in-depth and confidential discussion of the difficulties you are experiencing, any specific diagnoses, as well as different treatment recommendations.

Further sessions

Depending on the severity of the condition, psychological treatments can take anywhere from 6-10 weekly sessions for more mild symptoms, or up to 20 or more for more longstanding or severe conditions. This treatment is always oriented towards alleviating your symptoms whilst achieving the specific goals you most want to achieve.

**If you contact me via counselling directory, I always endeavour to promptly respond to all queries.  Please keep an eye on your email spam folder in case my reply ends up there.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified as a clinical psychologist at the University of Leeds in 2012. Following various NHS roles, I have now been working in private practice full-time since 2017.

I completed a BSc (Hons) degree in psychology at the University of Hull in 2007, receiving a first.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
