About me

*PLEASE NOTE I WILL BE ON MATERNITY LEAVE FROM FEBRUARY 2024, SO AM UNABLE TO ACCEPT NEW CLIENTS AT THIS TIME*

Life isn’t always how we pictured it and it can be scary to realise that you feel overwhelmed. It might be that you feel you’ve lost touch with who you really are. Maybe you feel alone in how you’re feeling or struggle to get through each day. I believe that talking things through with someone is the best way to find a way back to you.

My name’s Beth and I offer a safe, confidential and compassionate space to talk through what’s going on for you. I work to empower you and hear your story, not to give you advice. I would love the opportunity to work together on what your emotions are trying to tell you and get back to the blueprint of who you are.

The key to any counselling work is our relationship. It’s one of trust and respect and together we can figure out what your emotions are telling you. I'm able to bring creativity into the room or use whatever you feel comfortable in telling your story.

Counselling can feel daunting if you've not done it before, but I will always go at your pace to ensure you feel comfortable and safe. I'm able to be as flexible as possible to accommodate what you feel you need to be able to explore your feelings. I'm able to bring creativity into our sessions, to explore things in a different way if that works for you. My role is to gently facilitate you discovering more about who you are and want to be.

I work with adults of all ages and backgrounds and offer either online or face to face counselling.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified humanistic counsellor, registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I have experience with a variety of issues through working at several counselling organisations in York.

I’ve worked in business, charities and I’m also a mum, so I understand the pressures that life can bring. I believe counselling is a healing process that can help you to reconnect with your values.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I offer a 20 minute conversation (usually over the phone) to talk about why you want to come to counselling and whether I'm the right fit. After this, our first session will go through some paperwork and start the process of us working together.

If you have any questions about the counselling process or what I offer, please get in touch. I always welcome questions!
