About me

I started my journey in psychotherapy thirteen years ago. I am a BABCP accredited therapist and a registered BACP Counsellor. I previously worked at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust specialising in eating disorders with clients who were transitioning from CAMHS to adult services and adults. I am also experienced in working with 13–17-year-olds with eating disorders including bulimia nervosa and anorexia nervosa. I have previously spent two years working with drug and alcohol addiction for an Oxford based charity and at Oxford Women’s Counselling Services for three years working with a variety of mental health problems.

At present I work one day a week at Oxford CBT alongside my own private practice offering online or face to face talking therapy. I specialise in anxiety disorders including General Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Social Anxiety, Health Anxiety, Panic, Separation Anxiety and Eating Disorders, Body Dysmorphia, Depression and Low Self-Esteem.

I work with clients of all ages who are experience all different mental health difficulties. However, three-quarters of my clients are young people aged between 11 to 18 years of age. I enjoy working with this age group and have achieved success with mild, moderate, and complex mental health difficulties. Young people are often open to change, which is part of the CBT process.

I have specialist training in CBT-E, which is the NICE (NHS) Guidelines treatment for eating disorders.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is an evidenced based therapy that helps us to understand how we think, affects how we behave, and how we feel. It is a collaborative therapy. I believe the relationship built between the therapist and client helps deliver a positive therapeutic outcome. I work with my clients to build a formulation of their difficulties using CBT skills and techniques. We work together to understand what is maintaining the problem and how we can change our thoughts, thinking styles and behaviours. We gently learn to face our fears and to stop using controlling or avoidant behaviours. We achieve this through setting goals, thought challenges and behavioural experiments. Once we have identified the problem we work to change it building in different understanding, new skills, and resilience. Linking together how our thoughts affect our emotions and by learning to change we can find a greater sense good mental health and wellbeing. This helps us to feel more in control of our lives through being able to move on and let things go.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy helps us understand, identify and change destructive or negative thought patterns. It is this thinking style that effects how we feel and behave.

CBT is a very collaborative therapy between the client and therapist and we work together to discover the core beliefs you hold about yourself, the world and others.

It can be hard and quite daunting to take the first step in asking for help but if you have any questions please contact me and we can have a chat and to see if what I have to offer would work for you.

I have a comfortable and private therapy room at my home outside Oxford. There is plenty of off-street parking and for parents of teenagers there is a local cafe and farm shop.

I am also experienced working via Teams or Zoom. I find a blend of face-to-face and video therapy very effective.

If you have any questions please call or email.
