About me

Do you want to understand and loosen the grip of depression, anger, unhelpful patterns and behaviours, or receive relationship coaching which transforms your relationship with a loved one? Do you want to free yourself from the legacy of abuse or trauma? Or do you want to make freer choices, increase your self-awareness, nurture your potential, and increase your level of happiness?

Why counselling? Sometimes the unresolved legacy of a past event - an unhappy childhood, a traumatic experience - can cloud your daily existence, possibly without you even being aware of it. You might be experiencing surges of anger, depression, frustration, self-hatred or a feeling of unease and discomfort within yourself and not know why, or how to resolve them.

Now is the time to explore what is going on so that you can learn to accept yourself for who you are, and set yourself free.

I offer skilled support when you are facing a crisis, relationship issues, depression, bereavement, grief, anger, abuse, low self esteem, addiction, divorce, illness, frustration at work, parenthood, ageing, redundancy, childhood trauma, fear of intimacy, feelings of hopelessness and more.

How I work: As an experienced, respected and approachable counsellor, I work gently, respectfully and at your pace to explore what you are experiencing. Together, we discover what it is that you need and how you can give that to yourself rather than relying on external crutches such as people, alcohol, drugs or food. Unlike many counsellors, I always look at your potential, at what is trying to emerge, as well as exploring the difficulties that you bring.

Relationship Coaching: As a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist, I can coach you to find better ways to communicate and move from conflict and pain to connection and love. I work with individuals and couples of any age and sexual orientation.

I am valued for my ability to provide a holding, nurturing, safe space where you can reveal aspects of yourself that you are ashamed of, or afraid of, or confused by - and do so knowing that I continue to value and respect you. You become increasingly able to understand and accept yourself and therefore to live more freely and fully, enjoying who you are. I work creatively, tailoring the sessions to best fit the needs of the person I am with.

In my practice, the work we do is affirming, clarifying and life-changing. At times it can also be challenging and difficult, but with my support and your determination you can continue the journey to setting yourself free and realising your full potential.

Testimonials:

"Angela and her sessions have had such a positive impact on my life that I struggle to know where to begin in thanking her. Angela has a natural gift in providing gentle guidance that has given me the space and opportunity to explore my life and direction in a way which I believe would not have been possible without her... Thank you, I am eternally grateful."

“I decided to undertake some counselling on my own in order to help me make some changes in my marriage that I could be responsible for. Angela has asked the right questions and where appropriate, provided guidance that has helped me to understand and reflect on his point of view – without judgement and with empathy. This has been a breakthrough. I appreciate her warmth and support as well as the odd gentle nudge to take action. She has provided some really sensible ideas and ways for me to engage with my husband in a way I haven’t known how to do before.

"When we started looking for some help to overcome the problems in our relationship, we were drawn to Angela’s webpage as she seemed open, gentle and relaxed in her text and we were interested in the Imago Therapy. We spent several weeks visiting Angela on a weekly basis and during this time, Angela created a warm, supportive environment in which we felt comfortable to explore our deepest thoughts and feelings, enabling us to really hear each other and empathise in each other’s experiences. During this time we got to know each other better (even though we have been together 16 years) and learned some really valuable communication skills that we can use whenever we feel unheard by each other. Angela is very human and warm, and welcomes whatever you bring to the room. It feels like you are talking to a friend and we both think she is amazing. We missed her when we reached the end of our sessions but we came away with a renewed humour and light heartedness in our relationship and a whole set of skills to draw from should we need them. Thank you Angela."

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
