About me

My clients

I am a psychotherapist specialising in one-to-one therapy to adults and Couples Therapy.  I see individuals either face-to-face or via Zoom, specialising in bereavement, loss and grief; and I see couples face-to-face.

My individual clients are people who have suffered a loss in their lives and are dealing with anxiety about how to find their way. The loss could be a physical loss such as a bereavement, a miscarriage or other issues in pregnancy, redundancy, retirement, relationship issues; or it could be a loss of your way in the world, a sense that you are on the wrong path, that you have lost their purpose or direction. It can be useful to have someone to help make sense of your new situation, to walk alongside you as you discover a new path.

Or it may be that you and your partner are struggling to make sense of your relationship. I can help by giving you a space to safely explore your needs and to reset your communication with each other.

Clients find me to be open, non-judgemental and easy to talk to. Recent feedback has included “Thank you again for your kindness and energy - I know it's your job to be there for me but I am really cherishing the way you hold that space. You are a very special human being”. My way of being allows my clients to feel safe to say whatever they need to without fear of how I might react.

There are many ways in which our view of ourselves and our future may change, and these can be overlooked by those around us. I specialise in working with clients who are dealing with loss in many ways, including

  • Loss of a loved one/bereavement
  • Miscarriage
  • Termination of pregnancy
  • Diagnosis of foetal abnormality
  • Relationship breakdown
  • Redundancy
  • Retirement
  • Chronic illness

I would be honoured to assist you on your journey.

How Therapy can Help

It can be very difficult to talk about these issues, others do not know what to say to you, and the loss can be very traumatic. It can be a great relief to speak to someone non-judgmental, who really listens and can understand the world from your perspective.

It may be helpful to reflect, explore and examine your life with an approachable, experienced and understanding therapist. This is where I can help. Together we can make sense of your situation and find a path through.   There can be a fear of shame or failure in asking for help, or showing vulnerability but actually these are signs of strength. I can support you in your courageous step to ask for help and walk alongside you as we explore your experiences.

What to Expect in Your First Session

A first session is a really important opportunity for you to decide if I am someone you would like to work with.  We will discuss the reasons you have decided to come to therapy, and I will also ask you for some information on your family and life circumstances.  We will also discuss how many sessions to agree to work together in the first instance.  It is a chance for us to get to know each other a little, and to agree on how we could work together to help you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
