About me

Sometimes people considering counselling or psychotherapy believe it might be for those with bigger problems or worries, but therapy is for 'anyone' looking to overcome emotional difficulties or anxious times in their lives or want to have less stress, anxiety  better relationships or work life balance & reach a sounder mental space.  Maybe to have better self confidence or communication skills or cope with anxiety or depression or a loss, perhaps arriving at the end of a chapter in life, or beginning a new one.                               It can be hugely beneficial & re-assuring, talking over your worries & personal issues in complete confidence, & in the process steadily gaining more emotional self-awareness, self confidence & clarity over your life.

If you're new to therapy you'll soon begin to feel that it can be a very effective & a very valuable investment in yourself & your emotional wellbeing, taking back control of your thoughts, feelings &  behaviours.

I offer all my clients  caring, confidential emotional support with mental-health issues,  anxiety, stress, feeling overwhelmed, low moods, sadness, depression, ADHD, panic attacks, stress, lack of self worth, self esteem, or boundaries. Body image & self confidence. Work/ life balance. Shame, guilt, anger OCD. self harm, childhood traumas & abuse.

Also sensitive support with personal & intimate relationships, marriage & partnerships issues, blended family relationships, affairs, betrayals, separation & divorce, miscarriage, termination & baby loss. Work related stresses, career & motivational needs. Perhaps suffering from a life changing illness or accident. Bereavement & loss, traumatic & complicated grief.

With 27 years of very extensive experience as a highly qualified  accredited practitioner. I offer to support you professionally by helping you to gently explore your feelings safely & effectively...while empowering you to take control of your emotions & your relationship with yourself & others.

If you are seeking or want to be - pro-active in transforming your life for the better or gain a clearer understanding of your thoughts, feelings, behaviours & relationships, perhaps you are at a crossroad in your life, or trying to resolve issues, traumas, negative behavioural patterns of yourself or dealing with those of others or you are looking to become unstuck from your past & become unafraid of the future, or want to uncover your potential & pursue you goals & dreams...                                             I offer you understanding, therapeutic support with complete confidentiality & anonymity. If you are over 18 years of age, short term & longer term therapy is available to you & flexible appointment days & times offered to suit your personal & lifestyle needs.                                                            Counselling & psychotherapy is all about 'you' & our working relationship is central to achieving your aims &  for resolving past & present issues.  My role is to establish & help build a sound, safe working therapeutic relationship with you, carefully developed with trust, transparency & confidentiality. So if or when you feel the need to share very sensitive, fragile feelings & emotions, you know that you will feel safe & very well supported.

My extensive experience & the therapeutic approaches I use, enables me to help support you resolve much deeper set issues - perhaps from childhood or a disruptive emotional adult life. If you're feeling you need to untangle something very upsetting & unresolved from your past, or manage overwhelming current emotions, worries, anxieties, sadness, or grief, guilt, shame, relationships or are neuro divergent & need support, then feel free to contact me.

Perhaps you're trying to cope with feeling overwhelmed, or struggling with turmoil or making difficult choices in your life, or a sadness from a broken relationship, loss or bereavement, illness or maybe you are looking to find motivation & empowerment for positive change, these & many more reasons are why clients' seek support & where I offer to help & support your overall emotional wellbeing.

I work nationally - mainland uk. England, Wales & Scotland.    Appointments for individual sessions are up to one hour & are completely confidential & relaxed.  I offer flexible appointment times -  mornings, afternoons & evenings Monday to Friday & occasional weekend appointments (by arrangement) to suit clients' working needs. Face to face sessions are held in Folkestone. Telephone counselling has become very popular with so many clients  - it saves travelling time & allows you freedom to have sessions anywhere  where you want. All telephone sessions are conducted with the same content as face to face sessions - all that is required is that you are somewhere convenient for yourself, where I can telephone you at a mutually agreed appointment time.

I am also an accredited bereavement & loss counsellor endorsed by 24 years as a volunteer counsellor/supervisor with Cruse Bereavement Support. So if you're trying to cope with grief experienced by the death of a loved one or friend, or maybe a grief due to a tragic accident, suicide or from cancer, a still birth, or miscarriage or loss of a treasured pet. Even the loss experienced through a break-up in marriage or from from the adjustments of separation & divorce or empty nest - if the above losses apply to you I offer sensitive  bespoke grief support.   (I also work with traumatic & complicated grief supporting  relatives, friends colleagues of those bereaved by suicide, murder or fatal road traffic accidents.)                                                                                    My style of therapeutic work offers the use of several theoretical approaches.  I find this works extremely well for clients' as it provides a much wider and very thoroughly blended source of therapy - whether for short term solution focused therapy & motivational work or longer term therapy.

From our work together in  your sessions you'll experience the opportunities to explore safely & have greater awareness & understanding of your emotions & learn to use 'tools' to help you manage them, greatly benefitting your mental health & overall wellbeing.

The most difficult part of seeking therapy is making the initial contact, so if you've not had any previous experience of counselling or psychotherapy or if you lack confidence are shy, a little reluctant or anxious about enquiring, rest assured my priority is to put you at ease & listen to your needs.

Before choosing to book an initial appointment I also offer you  the opportunity of a free initial 15-20mins 'phone call to say 'hello & hi' & answer any questions you may have & for you to see how we might work together.                                                                                   I sometimes have a waiting list, but I always try to quickly arrange a first session for you, by making an appointment for a daytime /eve &  time that suits you. I offer flexible appointment times.  At the end of the first session you decide if you would like to have more sessions & how often.

Please feel free to 'phone contact me  Tel: 01303 891794 or  text phone  Mob: 07799 007108.    or Email: Therapist.ss@hotmail.com.  directly or via this web site to enquire or book an initial  contact & I will speak to you as quickly as possible in complete confidence.   I look forward to contact with you. Until then....

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
