About me

Hello and welcome.

                          CORONA VIRUS UPDATE.

NB. ALL SESSIONS ARE NOW ON LINE.

Hi, so here we are, several weeks into Lock Down and beginning to feel the strain of living and working at home or just being isolated. Some people are enjoying the space but many are beginning to wonder what their life & relationships are really about and questioning their own behaviours; many are feeling anxious, frightened, sad or distressed; many are reassessing their chosen lifestyles etc.

If this is you and you want a chance to chat through some of your issues please do contact me.With the time & space that we do have now we have a great opportunity to face up to some of these difficult situations with some expert support. I hope my skill set will be able to help you find some answers before life changes again. This is a perfect time to tackle those things that have been worrying you!

Do drop me a quick line/text or phone and we can start to arrange something that fits with your new regime. Do be available for a minimum of x6 sessions ( fees are transferred electronically.)

Its ok to be anxious at the moment- it is an anxious time , but I hope I can help you through this trying time .  Do also check out my website. I look forward to hearing from you.

and back to the blurb.................................

Hi
Life can be a challenge and sometimes we need help beyond our usual circle of friends. Someone who is a good listener, committed and there for us. I hope that this
is something that I can offer you, an individual or in a partnership, as a highly qualified and experience psychotherapist with specialist training in couples & sexual/relational issues. I will aim to respond to your inquiry as quickly as possible as I understand how distressing it is for you to be in limbo.

There are many reasons why you might be reading this and looking for a therapist. Maybe for you it is a sense of lost-ness, world weariness or confusion. Maybe relationships are difficult at work or at home. Maybe you have simply lost yourself somewhere or are confused about your identity or sexual orientation.  Or maybe it is the pressure of life causing anxiety and depression. Do search carefully and find someone that you can work with confidently.

Here’s what I offer & I hope that my skills can match your needs and help you find some peace.

COUPLES THERAPY:

Couples Therapy is for you and your partner when your relationship is feeling tired or you have lost you way as a couple. This might or might not include psycho-sexual work but often a poor sex life is a signal of something being wrong between you. Clear communication is a good place to start and I hope to help you with this to re-establish intimacy or just to allow you to express your needs to each other. Can’t talk about sex or what you need? This is the approach for you. Sessions are 60 mins weekly. We will start with an individual assessment and then follow through with a block of regular "together" sessions & then see what is the best way forward for you both.

PSYCHO-SEXUAL THERAPY:

Psycho-sexual therapy is a no-touch approach for relational issue. It is a specialist area of therapy which requires specific advanced training. I can offer this to you. P-S therapy looks at issues of gender & identity; issues relating to underlying / past experiences that might be affecting your present sex life, sexuality or relationships. For example:  marital / relational issues, infertility, separation and divorce, emotional & communication issues; sexual functioning, performance and needs, sexual identity & experience. I can also work with you if you are struggling with the results of sexual trauma or abuse. I hold a specialist qualification /PG.Dip in this area and am an accredited member of COSRT. See my website for more details.

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY: I work with individuals to explore issues such as stress & anxiety, bereavement, depression, and a whole range of sexual and relational issues. I have a lot of experience of working with trauma of various types including trauma caused from relational abuse, accidents or past experiences.

I am happy to work with people who genuinely wish to tackle issues in their lives in order to effect a change to their situation.

I am happy to work with people with or without a spiritual orientation and also those from the LGBTQ community.

ABOUT ME:

I am a highly qualified and very experienced clinical practitioner, trainer. and supervisor, a UKCP  Integrative Psychotherapist and also hold senior accreditation with BACP as well as being COSRT accredited -the psycho-sexual therapists’ professional body.

Originally a teacher, I now work as a private Psychotherapist / Counsellor / Clinical Supervisor/ Trainer. As a senior practitioner and, until recently, a lecturer of Counselling, I enjoy running short counselling courses, consult with local counselling agencies (one of which I managed for several years)

I have had many years’ experience of working with a variety of people & age groups in many contexts including cross-cultural.  My experiences of juggling the demands of being a mum, wife, teacher and a student as well as my own journey of self -discovery have helped me appreciate many aspects of the complexities of life. I enjoy travel, photography and coffee with friends.

ABOUT MY APPROACH: I enjoy working with people and so my style is relational. I work with an Integrative model which means that I see the individual as a whole being and that our emotions, body and thoughts (including our spirituality) are complex and interlinked and so work with that in mind. I aim to work in line with your needs and I believe that a good relationship between us will facilitate the changes you are looking for. Whilst I wont be giving you the answers to your issues I hope to support you as we explore your situation and find creative ways to help you understand your issues.

ABOUT WHERE I WORK: I am based in both Amersham & Chesham in a quiet and secure space. I believe this environment can be a safe haven for you in which you can tackle your own issues and consider your options for a more fulfilled future.

My preference is to work longer term  (10+ sessions) as that gives me a chance to get to know you well and for you to really tackle some of those deep and disturbing experiences from the past as they affect you now in your current life and relationships. I expect to work consistently & regularly so will meet with you weekly - as far as is possible.

CONTACT ME: Do check out my website for more information if you are interested in my approach. I would love to hear from you so please feel free to phone text or email to arrange an Initial Assessment. An Initial Assessment is a "stand alone" session arranged at your convenience and lasts about an hour during which time you can talk through your issue and we can assess your needs together. If we "click" and feel that we can work together then we can plan further sessions and a way ahead.

Sessions Available:

Monday in Amersham (1-9pm)

Tuesday-Friday, Moor Park. Chesham (11.30-9)

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

COSRT

College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists

COSRT is the UK’s leading membership organisation for therapists specialising in sexual and relationship issues.

All members must abide by their Code of Ethics and the performance of accredited members is regularly monitored.

UKCP

UK Council for Psychotherapy

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
