About me

Therapeutic Counselling for  Families,  Couples and individuals. An integrative therapist  who has additional specialism in Children & family work in Bradford on Avon

I have experience in Counselling Adults with a wide range of issues:

  • Relationships
  • Family problems
  • Anger
  • loss
  • Stress & Anxiety
  • loneliness
  • Life changes
  • Menopause
  • Depression
  • Middle life re-evaluation and:
  • Presence process therapy-  if you are unhappy with your current reality , feeling stuck and wanting change, are suffering in your present life which  often shows itself as feeling depressed, unwell , feeling restricted, trapped, lost not knowing how to change things. Presence process therapy will involve your commitment to being present with yourself with an openness to exploring your life experiences and feeling ( rather than thinking about)how this is affecting you in your present life.
  • Life change coaching- if you are needing to make changes in your life but are  feeling stuck and not knowing how. Our focus will be on transforming negativity and obstacles so that you can be living the life you love. You can learn that this is possible.

This exploration and discovery assists  you in your personal journey with acceptance , understanding and challenge.. thus facilitating growth, change and fulfillment.

I offer Couples Counselling in which the work is focused on the relationship and also on external circumstances impacting upon you as a couple and individually. In the therapy sessions we will look at your current ways of communicating and you can learn new healthy ways of communicating that will encourage a more positive and healthy  relationship dynamic.we will identify your hopes for the relationship and  your life , your individual needs and what might be getting in the way of this. Wounds in the relationship will be looked at and acknowledged  and a current life and relationship reality check may be required. I am honest in what I see and in helping you find more healthy and positive approaches to your life and relating which can be transformative. Therapy sessions can be challenging and require your willingness to open and honest and to be with what can feel uncomfortable and sometimes unfamiliar, in order to create change and growth.

I specialize in Counselling Children, Young people and Families/Parents.
I have extensive experience working with 5-19 year olds and with the parents of children and teenagers who are facing challenges in parenting their child. I offer one to one sessions with children/teens and also sessions in which I can support you the parents/s if you are feeling overwhelmed and or struggling with the challenges and difficulties in the parenting-this is especially becoming more and more common in parents of our current generation of teenagers. Those who come for counselling experience a safe and confidential space to express the difficulties, both practical and emotional and also together we explore effective strategies to better manage this difficult phase.Often by the parent/s alone having Counselling with me (if the child/young person will not or cant attend sessions) much change can occur within the family dynamic, improving relationships and well being.

Family work focuses on the relationship dynamics within a family and helps to improve communication and understanding of each other. Whether this is a grown up family, a family with children/ young people or 2 members of a family ( e.g siblings, parent and adult child) a family is a family and imbalance within the family system can cause much distress.

As an Integrative Counsellor I incorporate :

  • Humanistic (centered on the person),
  • Transpersonal(reflection)
  • Psychodynamic(the past)
  • Systemic (paying attention to the family and social system of the client)
  • and where required,Solution Focused (including EFT) approaches.

I see each client as unique and offer a trusting, genuine and non judgmental place in which to explore and express ones inner most world and struggles.

My background was in Child development and Early years.Over the last 15 years I have worked with children and young people in Primary and Secondary schools in an educational, advisory and counselling capacity and with adults/families counselling in a mental health agency, a relationship based organisation and in private practice.

I have been a college lecturer in counselling  and offer counselling to Trainee Counsellors as part of their course requirement.

Further information

Children and Teenagers face many difficult challenges throughout childhood and adolescence and this can result in:

  • Anxiety
  • Social withdrawal
  • Disruptive behaviors and Anger
  • Nightmares/sleep disturbances
  • Eating disorders
  • School phobias
  • Self harming
  • Relationship problems(family and peers)
  • Depression
  • Illness
  • obsessive behavior
  • Bullying

Each client is a unique individual and together we will work therapeutically in a way that supports and encourages exploration, healing and personal growth.

Working with Children and teenagers can be more active than with adult therapy and so I use a wide range of resources. Many children naturally express themselves in their play and in the imaginary world and this can aid the counselling process a great deal.

With older children and teenagers I often encourage exercises to help them explore their personality, feelings and to develop a general sense of "who I am".

Counselling Adults: as a Person Centred Counsellor I offer a non judgmental approach that allows my clients to tell their story as it is. As each person is unique I have no set way of working, some clients like to work creatively. This can be with story, poems, visualisations, painting, drawing, music. I encourage an awareness of the body and any physical manifestations of emotional issues. I also offer relaxation / visualization techniques in the session and to use at home. Please let me know if you are particularly interested in any of these approaches.
