About me

Hello there, welcome to my counselling profile.

Me.
Humour is a big part of who I am as a person, and I believe that comedy and tragedy are closely linked.
If you decide to work with me, expect to be challenged In a kind sensitive and where appropriate humourous way. I find thinking in depth with another person stimulating, rewarding and refreshing.
I have common sense and can see the irony in a situation. Through years of personal therapy I have developed my emotional intelligence and I'm happy to share this with you.

I know it can sometimes feel difficult to make the decision to access counselling, so
please contact me to book a free 15 minute phone call, if you would like to ask any questions or make an enquiry.

I feel that having personal therapy is a positive act of self love.

Together we can work to create a personal plan of work which best suits your requirements. Whether it be exclusive talking therapy or a combination of talking plus creative therapeutic approaches.

I don't aim to fit you into my way of working, My aim is to find out from you, how you tick and what might best assist you to move towards your goals.
I aim to offer a calm and confidential environment where you can explore concerns that are troubling you, without fear of being judged or criticised.
In a safe environment, thoughts and feelings can be explored and repeated patterns of behaviour identified, some of which may have a bearing on your current Problem.

I am a psychotherapeutic counsellor offering confidential counselling to individuals, couples and groups using an open jargon free approach. I do not use any therapeutic methods without first explaining them to you and gaining your consent.

Boundaries, holding and containment are often seen as the essential foundations for growth in therapy. But they are not always easy to maintain. We can explore how you are managing your own personal boundaries. And how you can change them if they are not working for you. Personal boundaries operate in two directions, they affect the incoming and outgoing interactions between you and others. This will help you to say 'No' and to permit less emotional confusion between you and others. Whether in work, personal, friend or family relationships, with your parents or as a parent. Relationship issues can be worked through smoothly if we understand our own personal boundaries. And can use non violent language to communicate our needs. By non violent language, I mean a way of talking that doesn't stimulate a negative response from our partner when we are just trying to communicate our needs. Working towards having healthy boundaries will help you to navigate your way through tricky family issues.

Work anxiety.
Starting out in a work role can be exciting and we might be full of enthusiasm.
But pressures can develop where your personality changes and you might not even be aware of it until it implodes. Self reflection at this point is useful to understand change and the change to you personally. Changes comes within an uncomfortable pllace. At this point it is imperative to have the space to explore why this has happened and to set appropriate boundaries in order to work through the uncomfortable place. Trusted feedback allows you to see if you are where you want to be, it can help you to find the parts of you that have been lost, so you can move forward effectively and achieve your goals.

Gaslighting

Gaslighting is a form of manipulation where someone tries to sew seeds of doubt in the mind of their victim. Hoping to make them question their own memory, doubt themselves and lose their sanity. Using persistent denial, misdirection, contradiction and lying. It attempts to destabilise the victim and legitimise the abusers belief.

They could be denying that other incidents of abuse have occurred. Or that they are having an affair. Or staging bizarre events with the intention of disorientating their victim.
This applies to the mother that has beaten you and says you deserved that smack because you were naughty. Even when that smack was actually a punch and you, in reality had fallen victim to her frustrations rather than anything you had done.

Example
A husband comes home and finds his wife naked by the swimming pool with the gardener on top of her. He is outraged. She tells the husband she had fainted and the gardener was resuscitating her and they should be grateful. The husband then forgets his anger and thanks the gardener for his quick actions.

When gaslighting has taken place, you can feel very confused by what’s right and wrong, what’s fact and reality. You can question whether you deserve to be punished, whether you are a bad or naughty person. It can be difficult to see you are being abused.

It would be useful to see a counsellor to unpick what has or is happening. I will help you to get a clearer picture of the situation. To have the space to get your head clear and see how you would like to move forward. It’s so difficult to read a book when it’s touching your nose. It’s only when you can move it away from your face that you can get the perspective to read it. I will help you to put boundaries in place to stop you going into a similar relationship in the future.

A counselling relationship is maybe unlike any other relationship you have experienced, it requires a great deal of active participation on your part. It is the counsellors role to help you to find answers to your questions and make better sense of your current life situation. Gaining a clearer appreciation and understanding of your problems is the first step to making changes. Counselling gives you the opportunity to take stock of life and address issues which are making life difficult.

Innerchild Work
When an inner child is blocked, we are robbed of our natural impulses and gusto for life. Over time this can lead to low energy, anxiety, chronic or serious illness and a feeling of being blocked from fulfillment.
When our inner child is hidden we also separate ourselves from others. They never get to see our true feelings and wishes, they don't see who we really are. Sometimes we don't really know who we really are either. This makes it impossible to experience true intimacy with ourselves and others. For us to feel whole we need to embrace the child within.
I can work with you and your inner child to bring true harmony to your life.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
