My name is Nichola and I am an experienced and compassionate Clinical Psychologist based in Derbyshire. I have been working with individuals, couples and families who experience mental health difficulties and emotional distress for the last 17 years in both the NHS and independent sector. I now work completely independently.
Prior to working independently I specialised in working with those with difficulties relating to trauma (predominantly sexual abuse and domestic violence), attachment problems (for example those who have received a diagnosis of personality disorder) and those with substance abuse issues.
I have a keen interest in working with those who are experiencing relationship problems (including issues relating to identity, conflict and sexual difficulties), emotional difficulties and mood problems such as anxiety, depression and issues relating to anger and those who have developed problematic coping patterns (such as self-harming and addictive behaviours).
Therapy is an personal process and no one approach suits everybody. I offer an individualised approach to talking therapy combining aspects of various models including - Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, CBT; Dialectical Behavior Therapy, DBT skills , Schema Focused Therapy, Somatic Trauma Therapy, Compassion Therapy and Psychodynamic approaches.
I understand that therapy needs to be tailored to the individual. For some people accessing therapy their focus is on making sense of early childhood experiences and repeating patterns while others prefer to focus on the here and now. Both approaches are equally valid. I work compassionately with clients, recognising the challenges they have experienced and offering a way forward.
I am also interested in supporting people to achieve balance within their lives and can offer sessions outside in a peaceful, natural setting for those who wish to seek an alternative to therapy / clinic based therapy.

I have worked in a number of specialist services including drug and alcohol services, youth offending services, personality disorder services and preventing family breakdown services.
