About me

I am an experienced Clinical Psychologist based in Derbyshire. I have been working with individuals, couples and families who experience mental health difficulties and emotional distress for the last 16 years in both the NHS and independent sector.

As a Clinical Psychologist, I am trained and have experience in working with people with a range of presenting difficulties including mental and emotional health, developmental disorder and learning difficulties. I work with people of all ages (including children and young people) and work with individuals, couples and families.

I also have a keen interest in working with those who are experiencing relationship problems, emotional difficulties and mood problems such as anxiety, depression and issues relating to anger and those who have developed problematic coping patterns (such as self-harming and addictions).

Prior to working independently I specialised in working with those with difficulties relating to trauma and attachment problems (for example those who have received a diagnosis of personality disorder).

Therapy is an personal process and no one approach suits everybody. I offer an individualised approach to talking therapy combining aspects of the following models - Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, CBT; Dialectical Behavior Therapy, DBT skills , Schema Focused Therapy, Somatic Trauma Therapy, Compassion Therapy and Psychodynamic approaches.

I am also interested in supporting people to achieve balance within their lives and can offer sessions outside in a peaceful, natural setting for those who wish to seek an alternative to therapy / clinic based therapy.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • BSc (Hons) Psychology 2:1
  • DClinPsy Doctorate of Clinical Psychology
  • Chartered member of the British Psychological Society
  • Practitioner Psychologist registered with the Health & Care Professionals Council

I am a qualified Doctor of Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) , registered with both the HCPC and British Psychological Society (CPsychol) .

I have completed additional training in Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Somatic Trauma Therapy and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. I am committed to continue to develop my skills and practice to enable me to provide an effective service to my clients.

I have worked in a variety of settings in both the NHS and the Independent sector. I have worked in a variety of specialist services including drug and alcohol services, youth offending services, personality disorder services and preventing family breakdown services.

I have worked therapeutically with clients of all ages, including children and their families, couples, older adults and children and adults with learning disabilities and developmental disorder (eg Autistic Spectrum Disorder). I enjoy working collaboratively with clients and appreciate the importance of a sound, therapeutic relationship at the core of all therapy. I have extensive experience working with those with substance misuse / addiction difficulties and in working with those who self-harm.

I understand that therapy needs to be tailored to the individual. For some people accessing therapy their focus is on making sense of early childhood experiences and repeating patterns while others prefer to focus on the here and now. Both approaches are equally valid. I work compassionately with clients, recognising the challenges they have experienced and offering a way forward.
