About me

There may be many reasons why you feel you need to access other support other than talking to family and friends. Sometimes we can feel very stuck in our lives, this could either be in our relationships or with particular emotional problems. And sometimes, experiencing painful life events can make it difficult for us to know what to do to move beyond these difficult times.

Counselling will give you a time and place to be heard when you need it most.

I offer a confidential and safe space to support you in overcoming difficulties you may be experiencing in life.

How Can I help?

I place great importance on developing a counselling relationship based on trust, openness and respect. I will not tell you what to do about your difficulties. What I will do, is listen to what you bring and will provide you with a time and a place in which you can explore your difficulties, without judgement.

I can help you:

  • To feel supported and heard
  • To explore how you relate to others
  • To think about your difficulties and how you can overcome them
  • Develop your resilience
  • Understand and process issues from your past

Attendance on your terms

How often you attend and when is something we will discuss as we progress through our work together.

Although counselling generally works better when attending weekly,  I do offer fortnightly sessions if you feel that would suit you better.

I offer both short term counselling (4 - 6 weeks) and long term for as long as you need and want to attend your counselling. The decision is yours.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have experience of working with adults with a wide range of issues including: Suicidal thoughts, depression, anxiety and stress, trauma, self-harm, isolation, relationship problems, gender identity ,work related problems and personality disorders.

Qualifications

  • BACP (British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists) – Certificate Of Proficiency.

I also hold a Diploma of Higher Education in Housing Professional Studies and a Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training.

Prior to beginning my journey as a counsellor, I worked as a Manager in a Local Government Housing Service and as a Family Support Worker in a Local Government Children and Families Service.

I was also an Employment Advice and Guidance Worker helping people to find employment and access education and training. It was in these roles that I was prompted to begin my counselling training.

I continue my professional development through my client work, clinical supervision, coaching and regular on-going training.

As a Person-Centred Therapist, I also continue my own personal development alongside my clients, who teach me valuable life lessons with every interaction.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
