About me

Hi,

I'm a registered Art Psychotherapist with a background in Clinical Psychology. I am based in Glasgow City Centre but I also offer online and telephone sessions. I have experience working with children, young people and adults with autism, special needs, trauma, anxiety, low mood, bereavement, life transitions and identity. I offer a free, initial 20 min. introduction via phone or video call to answer any questions and help you decide if we can work together.

Therapy offers a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where your story can unfold. It’s possible to explore recurring themes, patterns and increase self-awareness to help you navigate your way in life. It offers a healing and reparative process. Engaging in consistent and regular meetings creates the possibility for personal change and development. It can increase resilience and improve mental well-being, family, social and work relationships.

Art Psychotherapy is a form of psychotherapy that includes art making and images in the therapeutic process. It can offer you a different approach to communicate thoughts and feelings and it can be a complementary tool in talking therapy to help put things into words. This doesn’t mean you have to make art each session; it’s perfectly okay to alternate between talking and art making.

The use of imagery is not uncommon in our daily lives. Just think of dreams, stories, myths and movies. Images can elicit memories and vice versa. They can be a powerful means to communicate something. In therapy, these meaningful visuals become externalised. This creates distance and can help you see things more clearly. There is also a sensory experience with the smell, touch and sound of materials which include pens, paper, collage, charcoal, pastels, paint and clay. It can have a relaxing and calming effect.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained as a Clinical Psychologist in Belgium. It was during my placement working with children with autism that I discovered the potential of art to build relationships, enhance communication and expression. Further, I worked with adults with brain injuries and special needs.

After moving to Scotland in 2016, I pursued an MSc in Art Psychotherapy. During my training I worked with children and adults with various mental health issues including attachment difficulties and complex trauma. For the last few years I worked as a school-based Art Psychotherapist which I combined with my private practice. Further work experience includes anxiety, low mood and bereavement.

2012 - Master of Science in Clinical Psychology (Ghent University, Belgium)
2009 - Bachelor of Science in Clinical Psychology (Ghent University, Belgium)

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
