About me

We all experience life challenges which can result in feelings of anxiety and depression leaving us feeling confused, overwhelmed and finding it difficult to cope.  My name is Suzanne Fowler Evans and I am a fully qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor  experienced in working with anxiety, relationships,  and the perinatal period. I offer a safe and confidential space to work through how you are feeling and understand why.

I work with a combination of therapy styles including humanistic, psychodynamic and verbal CBT so can work with you in a tailored and individual way. Sometimes we just need some coping mechanisms to get us through the day, other times we want to be really listened to and understood or you might want to delve into your past experiences to work out why you are who you are.  Very often a combination of all three therapy styles have equal value when it comes to feeling better, stronger and more impowered.

I have a particular interest in relationships and attachment,  having insecure relationships or unexplored attachment styles can lead us to constantly feeling confused and unsupported and can be at the core of why we often feel inadequate, insecure and lacking self worth or value.

My other main area of work is in the perinatal period, if you are pregnant or recently become a parent, I  can help you understand your feelings around your pregnancy, labour and birth, post natal health and bonding with your baby.  I  have many years of experience working with pregnant women and their partners including exploring relationship changes that so often result from welcoming a new baby into the family. I can work with either parent individually or as a couple to help you iron out any challenges that you are trying to work through together.

My in person practice is predominantly based in Farnham, Surrey al but I also offer more flexible sessions on Zoom.

I like to work with clients who are open to looking at  their mental health as part of their feelings of wellbeing and are interested in making changes that are right for them. There is no one size fits all and my aim is to help empower you to be the person you want to be and make helpful and autonomous life choices going forward.

I bring to our sessions evidence based knowledge, an open mind to work with you as an individual and a sense of humour.

If any of the above resonates with you and you would be interested in talking further about how we can work together please get in touch.  I recognise the importance of the therapeutic relationship so I offer a free initial 15 minute phone or Zoom session so we can get to know each other.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been working with soon to be and new parents for over 20 years, I have a BA in Educational Studies specialising in facilitating antenatal courses. I also work as a Birth Coach, supporting parents to make informed decisions around their birth choices.

Since qualifying as a  Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, I have worked with all kinds of mental health issues including Anxiety and Depression, OCD and Adult Relationships including supporting new parents and their changing relationships. However, as my training progressed, I developed more of an interest in all aspects of becoming a parent, including conception, IVF and the impact of labour and birth.  I also became increasingly aware of how our own experiences of being parented can trigger anxiety about becoming a parent ourselves.  During my work antenatally, I hear parents' concerns about how to involve their own parents and in-laws once the baby arrives, while maintaining boundaries around their own new family. Dads and partners often feel isolated and depressed once the new baby has arrived as relationships shift and change.

I support new parents, either together or individually, through their own feelings and experiences around coping with a new baby. Feeding, lack of sleep and unmet expectations of support are some reasons why early parenting can be so challenging. We often live in diverse and extended families, combining siblings and stepchildren can bring more situations to negotiate and being a Grandparent can also raise questions and concerns. My aim is to offer support to everyone involved in welcoming the new baby into the family. Since qualifying as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, I have also studied the Neuroscience of a baby and young child’s brain development and the impact of attachment, I am also a  qualified 3 Step Rewind Practitioner.

I qualified as a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor in 2022 and hold a professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling Practice. I also have a BA in Educating Adults (NCT) and am a registered 3 Step Rewind Practitioner.
