About me

There may be times in peoples lives when issues or circumstances may feel overwhelming or insurmountable, leading to anxiety or depression. This inner turmoil can lead to confusion and difficulty making decisions and in turn affect our personal well-being and relationships with others. This may lead them to seek help from a qualified counsellor, someone who is impartial and will help them to explore in a safe way.

I am passionate about helping people to find their own solutions and a greater understanding of themselves. As a qualified counsellor I work in a person centred way, treating everyone as a unique individual.

I offer a non-judgemental and confidential environment, allowing us to explore issues or concerns which may be causing difficulty.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a trauma informed counsellor and have extensive experience of working with survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence.

I have a relaxed and comfortable room in my house in Bodmin, Cornwall, ideally located within easy reach of the A30 and A39. Parking is available.

I hold a Diploma In Therapeutic Counselling, gained at Bracknell College in Berkshire and am a member of the BACP.

As a counsellor I feel it is important to continually update my skills and regularly attend Continuing Professional Development workshops and lectures to increase my knowledge and to gain a deeper understanding of my clients needs.

Previously, I worked for an agency with adults from 18 upwards and also for a young person charity, in addition to private practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I work primarily in a person-centred way which means I work alongside my clients, helping them to find the best solution for themselves but do introduce other modalities when appropriate. I do not offer advice or give instruction as I believe that each individual has the solution to their own problems even though it may not feel like that during times of difficulty.

I work with you in a non-judgemental, respectful way, taking into consideration your values, culture and autonomy.

First session

It is important that you find the right therapist, this will enable you to feel comfortable, therefore gaining most benefit from counselling.
