About me

Hello, I am Sue, an experienced BACP registered Humanistic counsellor working with individual adults aged 18 years and above. I work face-to-face, online and by phone.

If you are feeling stuck in life, I understand how important it is to find the support you need before you reach a crisis point. Whether you are affected by anxiety or depression; or are facing difficulties leading you to feel you no longer enjoy the things you used to love; I offer a calm and reflective space where I listen with focus and compassion as you share your story. Learning to view yourself with curiosity and not judgement, helps to increase self-compassion and improve the relationship you have with yourself and others around you.

Together we will work to discover the root causes of your concerns. Through having this consistent support you can be given tools to get on top of your difficulties.

Timing is everything in therapy; if you are ready to make a change I offer a free 30-minute introductory chat to see if I am the right counsellor for you.

Issues I work with:

As well as experience in dealing with a broad range of issues I have worked with clients experiencing:

  • Loss of identity after death of loved ones
  • Low self-esteem
  • Anxiety and Depression
  • Relationship issues
  • Trauma
  • Difficult childhood experiences

What therapy with me is like:

Our therapy space is your time to meet regularly with a counsellor trained not only in listening with sensitivity and empathy; but who is also able to detect patterns of behaviour by being able to step back and look at the whole of the content you bring. This is the chance to reflect and gain clarity into why you react the way you do; giving you a deeper understanding of yourself.

I aim to build trust with you, by creating a respectful and reflective space that allows you to explore emotions that can hold you ‘hostage’ if left unexpressed. I believe that therapy is a dialogue so I always work at a pace that you feel comfortable with.  I tailor my approach to bring the greatest benefit to you. There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to counselling, as I believe the best therapy for you will always be as unique as you are.

We can work together to:

  •  Explore your life experiences and how they might affect how you relate to the people in your life
  •  Discover how ways of being in the past might no longer be serving you, and help you find a new way to support yourself that is a healthier way to cope
  •  Look at the meaning in your life and what choices you can make to bring yourself closer to living in line with your values
  •   look at what might be keeping you 'stuck', and together we can find new perspectives that will allow for change

Let's find the right questions for you leading to answers that will connect to the strength already inside yourself.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
