About me

*please check your spam email inbox if you don't receive an email response within 48hrs

Hi...

...welcome and thank you for reading my profile. I'd be happy to help you through your darkest times in a warm and professional way, and I'll support you to be in control of your own therapeutic journey. I will listen to you in a non-judgmental manner and will try my best to understand you and see things from your viewpoint.

Often, well-meaning friends and family will try to help you but they'll usually give unsolicited advice or opinions that can leave you totally confused. I won't do that. What I will do is provide you with a safe space where I can gently challenge you as you work through your own issues and build your self-confidence and self-esteem. Furthermore I can provide some guidance in the form of basic psychoeducation, and give information on mindfulness and self-soothing strategies to help you cope when you feel triggered by life's more testing times. (For further information on the way I work, you can take a look at https://www.bacp.co.uk/about-therapy/types-of-therapy/person-centred-counselling/)

I am passionate about helping others to unravel negative belief systems, work through any past trauma, and learn to rediscover their true authentic selves. Life can be really hard at times, and it can be helpful to have someone to talk to and someone to bring things in to your awareness that you may not have noticed before, such as negative self-talk or the beliefs of others that have been placed upon you. Once you're aware of these things it becomes easier to work on turning them around, and you can begin to rebuild a stronger sense of self. Finding self-validation and acceptance from within can be a liberating experience whatever your age or stage of life.

Your sessions will take place at my home therapy room in Cleckheaton which is accessed via a flight of stairs, off-street parking is available. If you're interested in making an appointment, please have a read of my experience and qualifications before getting in touch. I will need to confirm with you that you are happy with my fees and therapeutic approach before we meet for the first time.

I'll look forward to hearing from you and will do my best to respond primarily by email (please check your spam box) within 48hrs.

All the very best,

Sarah

Training, qualifications & experience

My qualifications and experience:

Qualified in 2016, my experience lies predominantly in working therapeutically with survivors of childhood sexual abuse and their family members. I am very aware of the devastating impact and ripple effect that this type of trauma can have on a person's life.  I have worked with survivors of all ages and genders, from 18 to 80, and I have never failed to be awe-inspired by watching these often fragile clients make the transition from 'victim' to 'survivor'. I also frequently work with clients who are experiencing anxiety and/or relationship issues.

Previously, I have worked as an Early Years Practitioner in Kirklees, a Family Support Worker in Bradford, a Mental Health Support Worker in Kirklees, and I have even owned and ran my own community cafe providing special interest groups for socially isolated people in my local area. Listening, caring and supporting really are my passions in life.

I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, along with Level 2 and 3 certificates in Counselling, and I am currently working towards a BSc Honours degree in Psychology and Counselling.  I am also a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

  • Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
  • Certificate of Higher Education (Open University)
  •  Level 3 Counselling Skills
  • Level 2 Counselling Concepts

  • Level 3 Certificate Work with Parents
  • NVQ Level 3 Children’s Care, Learning and Development
  • Diploma in Counselling Children and Adolescents

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
