About me

People come to counselling for many different reasons. Life has a tendency to throw major challenges at us without warning. You may find yourself dealing with a specific life changing circumstance such as a bereavement, traumatic experience, relationship difficulties or redundancy to name a few. Sometimes being able to pin point feelings can be a little difficult. You may be experiencing feelings of being in a rut and are anxious, depressed or just unsure of how you currently feel about your life or a certain situation.

Acknowledging you may need some help is a big and very positive step in the right direction. Having a support network is a good thing, but you may not want or feel able to open up and discuss your inner most thoughts and feelings with those closest to you. This is where having a space to talk about whatever is happening for you with an impartial, trusted person in a confidential setting can be beneficial.

Whatever your reason for seeking therapy, my role as therapeutic counsellor is to provide you with a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment where you are able to explore your thoughts and feelings openly. We can work together with an aim to evaluate where you feel you are currently in your life, then identify what direction you may want your life to take and what process you need to undertake to achieve your aims.

My approach is integrative and heavily influenced by person centred and psychodynamic theories. I do not see therapy as  something that is the same for all and believe by combining approaches from a variety of theories I am able to adapt them to personally suit the individual needs of each client. Essentially this means that I am here to support you, whilst together we shall explore whatever issues present themselves for you at this time as well as acknowledging how your past may have influenced your current choices and behaviour.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified and experienced Integrative counsellor and registered member of the British association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I have previously worked along side the Shaw Trust Charity, providing counselling for long term unemployed service users.  This was on a 12 session basis where the focus of sessions included getting back into work as well as low self esteem, anxiety and depression.

Along side Private practice, I am currently a sessional counsellor working with Improving Access to Psychological Services (IAPTS) in Croydon. This NHS service is provided by the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. IAPT's offer a range of psychological therapies to adults 18 years and over, all of whom are registered with a Croydon GP.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
