About me

About me:

Since 2015, I have gained much experience in counselling through volunteering for the UK's largest bereavement charity. I counselled men and women who found life very traumatic after the death of a special person. Listening closely to such individuals, I supported them closely along their journey to 'recovery' where they could begin to revive their wellbeing, interests, and even simple 'pleasures' such as observing nature.

Counselling help:

My service is focused on counselling people who feel they are challenged by a specific loss in life, e.g. job, divorce or bereavement, as well as those people, who may not be faced with a particular issue but, who feel very low and are similarly finding it difficult to cope with life.

Most importantly, you have a 'voice’ speaking to me while everything you speak about will be held in strict confidence. My approach is intentionally non-judgemental.  In this way, I hope you will feel able to express your feelings and improve your strength to cope with life’s obstacles - and even find a way to regain life’s joys.

As an Integrative Counsellor, I have gained knowledge and experience of using several different counselling approaches which I find as a useful resource to meet the particular needs of individual clients.

Person-centred therapy, also known as person-centred or client-centred counselling, is a humanistic approach that I employ most often with my clients. The reason I find this approach most useful is that it deals with the ways in which individuals perceive themselves consciously, rather than me trying to interpret their unconscious thoughts or ideas.

Peaceful and confidential, my counselling practice is based in a comfortable, conservatory room that may be shaded by blinds or open to a relaxing garden view. Daytime visits from 10 am or evening visits (commencing from 5-7pm ) are available. I allocate an hour per client visit which includes 50 minutes in counselling therapy.

Contact me:

You now know a little about me, but do you know how you're going to make contact with me? Firstly, remove your fear or embarassment, especially if this is the first time you've approached a counsellor for support. I'm warm and understanding. Ring/text me at 07818 403385 or click here to send me an email.

Once I hear from you, I can arrange the initial session with you and you can tell me what you're looking to get out of counselling. You can instruct me if you'd prefer daytime or early evening visits. I will let you know where I'm based, provide full location instructions, and inform you of the free parking I may provide.

Training, qualifications & experience

I became fully trained and successfully qualified as a BACP Integrative Counsellor via the Iron Mill College, Exeter in November 2018.

As a Registered Member of the BACP*, I have demonstrated the high standards of proficiency, professionalism and ethical practice that the BACP requires of the counsellors that have gained registration. I aim to reflect these standards on an ongoing basis with each of my counselling clients.

(*BACP, the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, is the professional association for members of the counselling professions in the UK.)

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
